you have a bad transducer.. its a direct short if its leaking anything getting way to hot

If you can find someone with a Humminbird that has the same pin configuration on the transducer cable, switch yours out and put the transducer in a bucket of water to see if it works. Otherwise, make sure the cable at the plotter end is firmly placed in the socket, and that no pins got bent in the past. Some of these models came with a metal clip that holds the end of the cable(s) tight to the plotter and is held tight by the mounting bracket screws.

sounds like you might not be getting a full 12 volts DC to the unit. check the voltage with a volt meter,, and also check to make sure that your battery/batteries are in top shape and charging properly. ( one bad battery in a bank of many can cause voltage issues ).
