I just spent almost 3 hours removing the horrible sticky coating on the E1 case. It was getting so sticky I didn't even want to turn the radio on. I bought a small bottle of rubbing alcohol and went to work. Rub and rub a panel at a time, and finally the radio is a pleasure to handle. You can rub over the white lettering and will not damage the letters or logos. I even rubbed the speaker grille which also was very sticky. There are still a few small sticky hard-to-reach places next to the bass and treble knobs but I plan to attack them with a Q-tip. Overall this was worth the time spent.
One owner on eham.com remarked that he soaked the cabinet in rubbing alcohol, after opening the unit and removing the pc boards. Whatever chemical is effective I believe the lettering would be destroyed.
