The clean channel on my fender hotrod deville has hardly any volume compared to normal. The drive chanel seems ok. I can turn the volume all the way up, without deafening anyone, I checked input jacks which seem ok, thanks Pete

Sounds like you need to replace a tube.

My Fender Hot Rod deluxe makes a popping noise when switching back to the clean channel.

This is because your clean channel only runs through the pre-amp section, requiring an increased volume level to match that of the volume of the drive section which is overdriven by the pre-amp circuit. my suggestion is to use lower volume level on the clean channel of the amp. To get any volume boost you may need to match the two channels you could use a signal/volume booster or overdrive pedal between your guitar and amp input, switching it off and back on when you switch back and forth between channels.

Hi, I have a Deville 410 and my drive chanel is loosing volume but my clean chanel isn't. Are my preamp tubes going bad? Thanks, Aaron

The tube at V2 position, the "B" section provides additional gain for the drive channel over the clean.
It would be uncommon for this tube to go bad in this way so try this: Swap V1 with V2 and see if anything changes... if it does, replace the tube that was in V2... else there is something else wrong. Possible problems might be with the control pot for the drive gain or other components. The switching is done with relays and it might be that one or more contacts are not working in the relays. The job of troubleshooting gets deeper beyond this and if you are not adept at electronics best to take it in to a shop. There are lethal voltages in this so one has to be familiar with working on high voltage tube stuff...

Fender hot rod deville 212 111. On the 2nd and 3rd distortion chanels the noise coming out of the speaker is very loud. Is this normal? Hard to play through the noise.

Hi. If the volume and drive levels are considerably low but you still hear a noise, you may want to consider trying a different guitar cable. The noise may be coming from a ground loop which is being amplified and overdriven by the amp itseld. I hope this helps. :-)

I have a Fender 2x12 Hot Rod Deville. The clean channel seems to be working fine but the overdrive channel is not. I have to turn it up all the way in oder to get just a little bit of sound. So that...

For the Drive channel you need to use the Drive control AND the MASTER volume control. When the Drive channel is active, the Channel Indicator lamp should be RED indicating the Drive Channel is active. The Drive control knob is used to adjust the preamp volume and distortion level of the Drive Channel. This gives you a clue as to what to check if adjusting the controls doesn't work -- the preamp tubes. Having said that, ONLY try to check these tubes with the amp OFF! Never stick your hand up into the chassis of a live amp. It could be lethal. Your preamp tubes are the ones farthest from where the power cord enters the chassis. They have a rubber like stabilizer on them. They have a tendency to wiggle loose, which is part of the reason for the stabilizer. Again, if you're not familiar with the insides...stay out and get an amp tech to help you.

The Normal Channel only uses the Volume Control to adjust volume.

When i turn on my 212R it turns on in drive channel. if footswith is plugged in, then it turns on in the clean channel, but after switching in drive it is impossible to switch it back in clean channel. What could be wrong? Swith position doesnt change anything and it seems like switch is OK.

Wayne, There's a time to take the amp to a pro shop andf get it done right. It' saves time and headaches, and also keeps you from inadvertantly smoking other parts or yourself. Now is that time.

Loud humm when the drive channel is on

I suspect the power supply has an issue. Most likely bad filter capacitors. This could cause "motorboating" where power is drawn and supply voltage collapses and then recovers repeatedly.

Time for the repair shop. The parts cost should be nominal... labor... well...

Fender Deluxe. The volume knob has no effect whatsoever. Volume only changes with the drive knob.

Your amp has two channels - "normal" and "drive." When you are on the normal channel, the "volume" knob controls your gain. In the "drive" channel, the drive knob controls your gain. In both channels, the "master" knob limits how loud the amp will get.

Most likely, you are on the drive channel, so the volume knob will have no effect. Try pushing the "channel select" switch. You should notice the channel indicator lamp (next to the drive knob) turn off. When it is off, you are in the normal mode. Yellow = drive, and red = "more drive."

Experiment with different settings to get a variety of tones.

To get the most out of this amp, try reading the manual, available online here:

Have fun - it's a great amp.
