wilf? this is a wave radio and cd player, what update you're trying to accomplish when the unit is in working condition in the first place?. There's no such thing as an update...
If your CD's get scratched by being stacked on a table and shuffled around, you can often get them to play again with something like Skip Dr: http://www.amazon.com/SkipDr-Manual-Disc-Repair-System/dp/B0015ACUKC/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_0 You may also be able to take them into your local video or video game store and have them professionally resurfaced.
If the CD's are not scratched, and are commercially bought (ie. not cd's that you bought blank and burned music onto yourself) I would probably try contacting Bose.
The laser pickup unit [Optical Pickup Unit] is faulty. Bose uses a special type. You can't get it from open electronic spare part market. It is best to get this set repaired by the authorised service center for bose at your town.
Have you tried unplugging the player, waiting several seconds and then plugging it back in?This may reset the euipment and cause it to eject the update disc. Be sure to wait when it says wait. Do not force anything. You may damage the unit.Is this an entirely new system? If it is, find your manual and paperwork and call the company support number immediately.
call bose for repair on this unit. The laser could be dirty but in most cases there is another failure. Possibly in the motor control circuit. They have a flat rate repair service.
I had the same problem yesterday on my new Bose Wave Music System.
I just kept on pressing reinsert everytime the CD got rejected and suddenly it started accepting CD's again.
