Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router Logo
Posted on Mar 22, 2011

My WRT300N seems to have trouble with wireless connections lately. The wireless indicator is a green light, blinking a bit from time to time. Most of the time the router just won't be detected, however sometimes it's there after performing a reset. I can access the router admin panel and I've already updated the firmware to the latest version.

No longer any help needed. The router just seemed to be broken and we already purchased a new one which is working fine!

I suppose you have not suppressed SSID broadcast? Sometimes, interference from neighbouring wireless devices such as Coreless Phone, unshielded powerful speakers etc., may cause interference. Try to keep any other wireless or magnetic device at least 5 - 6 feet away from router.

In the router admin panel, check if you have an option to change the WiFi Channel. usually channel 6 is quite crowded ... try some other channel and see if it is stable. If your router has "Auto" Channel option enabled, please change it to "Fixed" and try.

WHAT LIGHTS ON LINKSYS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BLINKING

Note that incoming traffic will cause the WAN (or Internet) light to blink even if it is 'probe' traffic trying to break in to your network. Such traffic is to be expected and is the reason you have firewall functionality in your gateway router.

On the inside, there is a bit of traffic on any LAN when the computers are turned on. Messages generated by the router itself are used to find computers and printers for a lot of different legitimate reasons.

Troubleshooting DSL Modems

Ever look at your DSL Modem and wonder what all those lights mean? Why do some flash, while others remain solid? What if your lights are different colors? How do you tell if your DSL Modem is working correctly?<br /> <br /> Each light on your DSL Modem represents a function. The light is an indication of whether that function is working properly. Sometimes the placement and title of each function can vary by modem manufacturer, but they are pretty standard in interpetation. If you look closely your modem, you might find that each function is labeled in small print to help identify them.<br /> <br /> A standard DSL Modem has a light for power, internet, ethernet, link and wireless connection. A healthy DSL Modem will have a steady green light that does not blink or flutter for all features other than internet, ethernet and wireless. A flashing or fluttering light indicates movement and useage. When you are connected to your DSL Modem wireless, the light for this feature will blink indicating a connection and/or active useage. If the internet connection is working properly the color of the light will be green. If the connection is working but experincing a problem the light can turn to yellow or orange. If the connection fails, the light on the DSL Modem can be red or absent depending on the problem causing the trouble. If your service is turned off by the provider, more than likely the light will be "off".<br /> <br /> If your lights turn a different color, are absent or your internet connection fails try power cycling your modem before reporting the trouble to your provider. Power cycling helps the DSL Modem to reset its connection and repair your internet services.<br /> <br /> If you are using a DSL Modem alone to connect to the internet (no additional router) you can power cycle it by first turning off your computer and then unplug the modem itself from the power source at the wall. Wait for 1 to 2 minutes and then plug it back into the power source and wait for the warm up to finish before rebooting the pc.<br /> <br /> The DSL Modem should go through the normal warm up procedures of blinking lights, making them all stable and solid green ect. You will know when its finished warming up when the features are set at solid green (other than eithernet, internet and wireless connection as explained above). When the modem finished the warm up, reboot your computer and check your internet connection.<br /> <br /> Power cycling your DSL Modem can help keep your connection healthy and running at optimal speeds.<br />

Hi Friend,

You need to try hard reset of your router. Please follow the steps:

1. Power on the router.
2. Push and hold the reset button for 10 seconds (watch whether the power light blinks or not)
3. Turn off the router for 10 seconds and switch it on.
4.Once the power light is steady then perform the steps 1-3 for 2 more times.
5.If the wireless light still shows off, then kindly get in touch with the Linksys technical support centre.

If the wireless light turns to be good and steady then follow the steps to configure the wireless settings:

* Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the web browser and hit enter.
* Type admin as password and leave the username blank
* Click Wireless and fill the sections as mntioned:

SSID Broadcast: Enabled and click save settings.
* Click Wireless Security and fill the sections as mentioned:
Security Mode: WPA Personal

Pre-shared key: Any ten digit number and click save settings.

turn the router off for 30 seconds and swithc it on. use the pre-shared key to connect your wireless devices.

How many lights should be on my westell model327w?

b2f0922.jpg
The Westell has several lights on the front that have various meanings

Power = When lit, this light indicates there's power to the router. It should be solid green.

Ethernet = When lit, this light indicates that the modem is communicating with your computer. This will be on only if you're using the Ethernet cable to connect the modem to your computer

Wireless = When lit, this light indicates that the wireless function of the Actiontec is working. This will only be lit if you're using the wireless function.

DSL = When lit, this light indicates the modem is speaking to the central office (phone company). When working, the light should be solid green.

Internet = When blinking, this light indicates that you're receiving information i.e., you're able to browse from site to site. This light will be blinking as you're receiving information.

Lost power on my WRT300N router. Power came back and now the power light is weak and all 4 port lights are on.

I had the exact same indications after a utility power spike.
Quite by accident, I discovered that the power supply to the WRT300N when fully seated into the router causes the lights (and the router!) to malfunction in this manner.
I pulled the power supply connection out gradually and the power light began to flash. Pulling the power supply even farther out eventually caused the power light to shine solid.
I don't know if this is a random manufacturer problem with just my WRT300N (V1.1) or if others may have a similar defect, but it's certainly worth a try!
Good Luck!

if your connection (isp) is CABLE you will need to clone the mac of the main computer.

For cable connection verify what computer can go online with your modem, once you know the main pc connect it to port one, access the routers setup page by typing 192.169.1.1 then locate MAC ADDRESS CLONE in line with basic setup. enable it click the macclone button then save settings.
connect your modem to the internet port on the router, do a power cycle on the modem and router.
