Hi tlc19732001,
Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing 24vdc coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the 24vdc is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Hello, My elderly Mom has a Trinitron KV-32S10 tv and the stand-by light is continuously blinking and there is no picture, but there is sound. I have unplugged the tv and waited 2 minutes and plugged back...

The blinking light is the fault code to enable the engineer to have a good guess at where the fault area lies.
Count the blinks and tell a Sony repair shop, they will have a good idea of the cost.
Hope that helps.

I cannot get the sound on. We have the Model #80PP9753/17. Please advise. [email protected]

Hello,

you cannot get sound from your TV because the sound IC is bad.

Unless you replace the sound IC, you will not hear any sound from your TV.

I would advice you take the TV to a local repairer within your vicinity so the the fault can be fixed.

Good luck.

Won't turn on

The standby light should be blinking in a repeated pattern. Please count the blinks and report that number here. That will tell us the circuit that has the problem and allow us to provide possible solutions.

Thanks,

1999 sony trinitron color tv -no picture-no sound.

Hello c_car,

What is happening is that the Shutdown Circuit is turning the TV off due to excessive current flow. The excessive current flow is most likely the result of a problem in the HV (High Voltage) section of your TV. This could mean that the Horizontal Output Transistor or the Integrated High Voltage Transformer has malfunctioned (developed a short circuit). I would advise that you let a qualified TV technician work on the set due to the nature of this problem.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Toshiba Cyclone CX 34862 Television

Hello winman1,
It sounds like your shutdown circuit is shutting down your set. This is done usually because one of the stages in the TV most likley the High Voltage section is drawing excessive current. I would suggest that you take your TV to a qualified repair facility. Since this type of problem is a sign of serious problems.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

No picture, sound OK...setup menu shows up, able to get picture in PIP

You will need to check the inputs on the television. You more than likely have a bad video in signal. This can be a bad cable or a loose connection either at the input of your television or at the output from your receiver, (cable or satellite). First, try wiggling the cable and then try replacing it. This should fix the problem. If not, your signal may be routed through a stereo or other switching device?
