I have connected my phillips cdr785 recorder the proper way to record from an external source and I get the message "start source" on the cdr side when trying to record. And it never starts recording. I have the coaxial's connected from the external's out and the other end into the in on the cd recorder. The L and R bars on the bottom of the recorder's screen is picking everything up also, as it moves when I play the external source.

If it's a digital source (cd, d.a.t., etc.), it won't record due to the CMCS copyright protection embedded in the digital source. You have too record in or from analog first then go digital.

If you're recording an analog source the recorder won't automatically start. You have to start it in sync with the playback.

If you're trying a synchronized digital recording...

Page 28 of the manual says

Start playback on the selected source.

The CD recorder starts to record simultaneously and recording in progress is shown. The remaining recording time left of the CDR(W) is displayed.

Note: If you start playback on the selected source within a track, recording starts at the beginning of the next track or after 2.7 seconds of silence in analogue recordings.

How to eliminate error screen:"your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source."

"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"

Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.

No Audio 10 Error

What have you got hooked up? Another CD, tape outs from an amp or a record deck? No audio is a strange message to get, like you say you're using an audio cdr and that's usually what it means. What about if you press record with *no* source connected? Unit should record 20 seconds of silence then cut off.

Phillips cdr 950 audio cd recorder

Hi Averil

Get yourself a copy of the manual directly from the Philips website (look on the left of the screen for all the relevant links)

Your CD recorder has a 2 pairs of phono (rca) sockets on the back.

Connect your keyboard's output (line out ideally or headphones if there isn't a line-out) to the inputs on the back of your CD recorder. And connect the outputs from the CD recorder to your amplifier. If you don't have an amp, you can plug headphones into the CD recorder so you can hear what you're playing.

Good luck! Let me know how you get on with it.
