Ic been looking for a rpm signil in my 2002 Chevy cavalier

Where have you been looking ? RPM signal for what ?
Tachometer
The IPC displays the engine speed as determined by the BCM via a class 2 message. The BCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 RPM if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine speed sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

The CKP sensor is used for ignition timing, the fuel injector timing, misfire diagnostics and tachometer display. The CKP sensor is connected to the ECM by a signal circuit and a low reference circuit.

What parts have to be removed to change output speedsensor on 97 sebring convertible jxi?

Hi Nicholas, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR

REMOVE
  1. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist. See Hoisting in the Lubrication and Maintenance section of this manual, for the required lifting procedure to be used for this vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the speed sensor cable routing bracket Speed Sensor Cable Routing Brackets from the steering knuckle. Remove the wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender.
  4. Remove speed sensor sealing grommet from the inner fender Wheel Speed Sensor Connection To Vehicle Wiring Harness Then unplug the speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness Wheel Speed Sensor Connection To Vehicle Wiring Harness
  5. Remove bolt Speed Sensor Head Attachment To Steering Knuckle attaching the speed sensor head to the steering knuckle. Then remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle. CAUTION: If speed sensor head locating pin has seized to the steering knuckle, do not attempt to remove speed sensor head by grasping with pliers and turning. This will damage the speed sensor head. Use only the following procedure.
  6. If speed sensor head can not be removed from steering knuckle by hand, the locating pin on the speed sensor head has seized to the steering knuckle do to corrosion. Remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle using the following procedure. Remove disc brake caliper from steering knuckle, and remove brake rotor from hub/bearing assembly. Then insert a pin punch through hole in front steering knuckle Speed Sensor Head Removal From Steering Knuckle and tap speed sensor head locating pin out of steering knuckle.

Location of speed sensor

1991 ?
no transmission stated, so my answers new are impossible....
why not say why you want this. the context really does help.
you or anyone can look it up. in the FSM.
many cars have 5 sensors.
here are all speed sensors
the engine has 3 speed sensors. (cam/crank speed and TDC)
the MPH (road speed sensor) is below.
my guess you have ECU DTCs for VSS?
why not state it , flat out so helper knows the full context.?
qoute FSM and alldata.com (log in and see for self)
the signal from the vehicle speed sensor is used by the ECU as well as the cruise control and automatic transaxle control units. Accords and Preludes use an external sensor mounted on top of the power steering speed sensor in the engine compartment. The power steering speed sensor is gear-driven and controls the steering boost in relation to the speed of the vehicle. An electric pulser unit is mounted on top of this unit and is coupled to it by a small shaft. The motion from the lower unit is transferred to the upper unit; the resultant electrical signal is sent to the appropriate control units.

Transmission Fault code 17

a real DTC code.
17 , 94 Accord
the means VSS is dead, vehical speed sensor (miles per hour)
so , that begs the question is the speedometer dead or odometer
dead or acting funny IN ANY WAY?
is this an A/T Car or M/T car, both have VSS, so... cant answer.
Auto or stick, ill pretend, AUTO.
VSS moves all over the place, in all cars. all models and all years.
on this car, its odd.
quote FSM:

most cars old use the speedometer VSS sensor inside
on newer cars 1996 (on avg) the sensor is on the tail shaft. and in speedo.
on very new cars there are 3 VSS.... (dont ask)

on my 96 car, the tranny VSS can fail and then FALL back to the
SPEEDO head. and tranny still shifts but is funky,
the FSM covers all this, i recommend getting one, to understand
how it all works.

your car has and electronic speedometer
the VSS orange wire , sends speed data to the PCM, TCM, cruise.
the PCM then sets the speedo dial, and uses this info to run TCM
controls to the transmission.
your orange wire signal is dead or flaky.

2004 Buick Rendezvous Heads-Up Display intermittent problems

Your vehicles instrument cluster speedometer and heads up display unit both receive the same signal from the engine computer for the vehicles speed. The engine computer receives a signal from the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission for this to operate.

This isn't a speed sensor or engine computer failure as both would be erratic or off on signal and usually the check engine light would also come on with this problem here.

One of the two either the instrument cluster or the heads up display unit is at fault and is causing this.

What needs to be done from here is a scan tool needs connected to the vehicle to observe the speed signal on the data list in the engine computer and also in the instrument cluster to see if the speeds match each other.

If the engine computer is showing a different speed then what the instrument cluster is showing then the instrument cluster has an internal failure and needs repaired or replaced.

If both the instrument cluster and the engine computer speed signals match each other then the heads up display unit is faulty and needs replaced.

This is how it needs to be checked/diagnosed to see which is at fault. This is best checked by a dealer using their scan tool but any shop that has a scan tool that can communicate with these systems can also check these here.

If it needs a new cluster or heads up display these would have to be bought at a dealer or the dealer can remove yours and send them in for repair to their authorized repair facility

My ABS ligth stays on but my brakes work fine.

The ABS system is related to emergency stopping, not normal brake use, where you don't want the tires to lock-up when the brakes are hit very hard. ABS stands for Antilock Brake System. When the ABS light is on, the ABS system is not active. This means the ABS will not be Antilock when you need it. This does not mean you don't have brakes. The brakes you have are normal brakes without the added feature of antilock.

The light is on because a system fault has been detected. Most of the time this is a wheel speed sensor that has failed. Basically the system works by having 4 wheel speed sensors connected to a control unit. The control unit determines how much braking presure each wheel needs according to how much pedal presure you are applying, related to the vehicle speed, and the rotation speed of each wheel. If one wheel is spinning slower than the others that would mean it is locking up (less braking efficientcy) and the control unit then reduces the presure applied to that wheel so it doesn't lock up.

If a wheel speed sensor goes bad the entire system can't function so it shuts down and it is now a regular braking system. This means that it will work and feel fine to you, the operator. But in an emergancy, the ABS will not function and the brakes may lock up which is not as efficient as ABS.

I recommend you get it scanned for codes and find out what is wrong. It is a great safty feature that I think you are better off with, than without.

Some auto parts stores will scan your car for codes for free, like autozone and others. Call around and find that free scan. Then take it to a reputable shop, dealer, or your brother-in-law who is a master mechanic.

Good luck, and be safe!

My hyundais check engine light is on so i took it to the shop and they told me that i need to change the speed senso so i bought it when i took it to the machanic so that he could change it he told me...

The vehicle DOES NOT have a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) per se. It DOES however, have speed sensors - INPUT and OUTPUT speed sensors on the transmission. What was the check engine light?... what was the code?

On the 2002 Accent, these sensors cannot be gotten (purchased) separately. The two sensors are part of ONE wire harness and can only be acquired together as one complete unit/harness.

Our speedo quit two days ago, is there a fuse or just speed senso

try replacing the speed sensor thats most likely your problem, its that or the speedo cluster which i doubt, its the sensor 90% of the time and it not expensive or hard to replace, hope this is helpful.
