Hi, I have a monitor that shows me the red screen, you can see the picture but is at least what is seen and thought may be the vga cable or may be the LCD which is damaged. I await your quick and thoughtful response. Atte. Donovan Villanueva

Hi There and Welcome to Fixya,

The first thing you should do is to check if the pins in your VGA cable connector (from the monitor) and make sure if they are "complete and straight" - no bent or missing pins etc. It would be best if you have another PC or Laptop to try your monitor display out so you can determine which is really the problem.

In case you experience the same issue after trying the display out from another PC, then it is evident that there's a need to replace your LCD monitor. Now, if it's the other way around, then it's quite possible that you can resolve this by :

  • Reseating/replacing your video card (if you have one)
  • Updating your video display driver
  • Reinstalling your Operating system.
  • If it's onboard video, then I would suggest to purchase a video card compatible with your motherboard as oppose to replacing the entire board which is much more expensive.
I hope this helps,

Thank you for using Fixya.

1/3 of top screen show normal picture. last 2/3 screen snowy noise

Hi,
You have to check if the video cable is connected properly in both sides the pc and the monitor and if so you have to try another cable
and if that doesnt help and your vga adapter is not onboard reseat it in place and last thing if that doesnt solve the prorblem try to connect another monitor to determine if the problem is from the pc or from the monitor.
Good luck

Hi, My monitor will once in awhile go from the warm white color to a slightly red or pinkish color. The monitor is about 5 years old and the model # is AL1913. Any thoughts? Thanks. Don

Red or pinkish cast on the whole screen? You may want to check the VGA connectors and pins at both ends. Also try it with anothe PC to make sure it is not video problem in the PC.

Blue hue on screen

Try a different known working monitor on the vga port of your laptop. If the replacement monitor works then you definitely know its a problem with your original monitor. If the replacement monitor shows the same blue hue then you know the vga port is bad on the laptop which would mean replacing the motherboard since its connected to the laptop.

Shows nothing but cross horizontal bands

The monitor may not be able to handle the settings of the video adapter. If you boot into safe mode (tap F8 key as the computer starts), does the display appear correctly? If so, then you just need to turn down the settings (resolution, color quality, frequency) to the lowest possible settings. If the display still appears wrong, then it may be something wrong with the monitor. You can try connecting the monitor to another CPU and see if you can replicate the results.
