I have a DVD and a HD cable box going through my Yamaha RX-2400. Things worked great for past 6 months but recently started getting flickering picture and eventually picture was gone. TV says it is getting no signal. I hook up Cable box directly to TV and it works fine so I am assuming the issue is in the Yamaha. Is this worth getting fixed? Can this be a setting issue (I doubt it). Thanks.

I'd investigate the intervening video-carrying cables.

Consider whether you actually NEED to route video through the receiver in the first place. Is all that extra cable and 2 extra interconnections actually doing any good? Apparently not.

In my rig, I run high-end video only to my TV and high-end audio only to my receiver. No problemos.

If you suspect a setting was changed why are you tampering with the cables?

Get into the manual and go through every setting. Troubleshooting sections usually help. If it's just the Cable Box audio look at IT. Assign the port. If it's ALL audio start with the test tones.

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.

I've lost all digital sound to my reciever.

Get into the cable box menu and look for audio settings, chances are your digital output from the cable box is off. If you still can't get audio, reply with your Cable Box Make & Model and I can help you further. Hope this helps

Cable box HDMI connection probelm

This is from the Yamaha user guide:
The analog component video signals (with 480i (NTSC)/576i
(PAL) of resolution only) are converted to the S-video or
composite video signals and output at the VIDEO or S VIDEO
MONITOR OUT jacks.
The question is what kind of signals you get from your HD cable box.

Setting up Cable with HDMI

Yes, the firmware on your hdtv box has an old firmware, I switched my old hdtv box with a newer one box and the problem was solved. It seems that it can't work if your hooking up with DVI to HDMI cable to your receiver to tv. Your hd box must have an HDMI out otherwise it causes problems. I also have rx-v661 and i finally hooked up everything HDMI to the receiver and then to the tv and it was having the problem you speak of. After I switched out the hd box for a newer one everthing worked fine.

Yamaha RX-V2700 skipping when playing a DVD on Toshiba D-R400

Sounds like a poor grounding issue between the units OR maybe they're not as compatible as the Mfg's say.

Could be a bad HDMI cable also. Most are made in the land of Nanking

Setting up a Yamaha RX-V690 home theater system

you almost have the exact same situation i am in. i have the same receiver, and going to purchase a panasonic 50" (th50px75u). i think what i will be doing is running a hdmi from my hd cable box to my tv, and installing an audio cable (red/white) from my tv to the receiver. i believe there is an audio input below the hdmi insert. i have polk audio, but theyare about 10 years old, they sound great, but just too large....and may be purchasing a harman kardon system. which models do you have from polk? i have the rt16's, cs350ls center, and fx/500 rears. let me know what you have come up with as well...as it has been a while since you posted this.

cheers,
sean
