My tv is making a loud popping noise.

I have a 3 year old, 65 inch toshiba, rear projection tv. The model number is 65NH84. Ther last couple of days, it has been making a loud popping noise. The screen gets blury and then the tv is normal. Now the tv cuts off after each episode. The red power lights blinks and the tv wont come on. I disconnected the cable box and hooked straight to the cable outlet. It still does it. Can u help me.

Thanks,

Wade

SOURCE: Phillips 54 inch rear projection,no picture.

One thing that comes to mind when you say high pitched sound is the HOT ( Horizontal Output Transistor). You may be able to find one at fry's electronics. They are pretty cheap. If you are handy and know something about electronics you may be able to replace it. I am not a TV tech, I have a background in electronics and like to play with them from time to time. Not sure this will help but good luck

SOURCE: 52 inch rca rear projection tv wont turn on

I have the same problem. I had someone come look at it and he showed me the problem but a terrible price, so i didnt have it fixed. The reason the light blinks is there is a problem and the safety mech is kicked in which shuts the TV off. If you take the back of the TV off, about 15 screws, you will see right in the front on the left side a part shaped like the letter "C". The number on top of mine is S5 19 2. That is the part that needs to be replaced. Now to find the part on the internet and figure out how to change it out. any suggestions?

SOURCE: toshiba 50HX81 projection 'tv- blinking red light

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

My toshiba 57 inch rear projection tv every once in awhile makes a loud pop similar to a spark noise and the screen either goes black or flickers. do you have any suggestions what is causing this??

THis could be one of the CRTs (Color Tubes) is bad or the high voltage is leaking somewhere.
Toshiba projection TVs have history of yoke problems.
My guess is one of the CRTs is arcing inside. This TV has 3 CRTs red, green and blue. Replacing a CRT is not easy or cheap to buy if you can find it. If you like this try calling a TV technician to track down the high voltage arcing. DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS BY YOURSELF.

Best of luck my friend.

No picture, siren type noise as restarting

My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?

Hi,
Bulb solutions,And they give a 1yr warenty on them.
Had too many problems w/the ones off Ebay for Toshiba TV's. Not working or lasting only 3-6months. You can just buy the lamp,or the lamp w/the housing.

Toshiba 65NH84

You might have burned out the red color crt. In projection TV's there are 3 CRT's (one for blue one for red, and one for green). If you have the other 2 colors but no red I would assume this is your problem. You should be able to get it fixed for around $150.
