My wife got her fishing line tangled in the trolling motor. I took off the prop and removed all line. Now the motor is not getting power. I am not sure if these are related. If you have any ideas on how to get power back let me know. I did hook it up to my car battery to see if it would even spin a little and it did nothing. I also hooked up my backup motor to the battery so I know it is not that. Let me know.

I have a Minn Kota Model 35 24lb thrust transom trolling... I am not getting power to the unit, I tried taking the top plate off & bouncing power past the four position switch and still no movement of the prop. With that in mind,,,,,I belive I'm looking for a new swiotch controll, anyone have one for sale???
It might help to view drawings at http://secure.northlandmarine.com/MinnkotaTillerSteering.html.
The spring loaded items are brushes. They carry current to the rotor/shaft/impeller causing them to spin. I have two Model 35s. One failed after a couple hours of use. The other was given to me because it did not work. Both suffer from water getting into the motor and causing corrosion and sticking brushes. Someone on another site commented that this was a common problem for Minn Kota.
I had the same problem on mine. It would work but lose power and then stop all together. You could tap the base of the motor and it would start but I ended up breaking it down and it had alot of moisture inside the motor. I dried it out. I took a wire brush on a dremmel and went over the carbon brushes. Sprayed a little WD-40 into it and it worked great for about a month then did the same thing. I guess I need to replace the rubber O rings..
I have a used Minn Kota Model 35 24lb thrust transom trolling motor with a s/s prop how do I change the prop to a Weedless Wedge Prop, Model MKP6? there is a small pin that goes through, do I drill it out or what, I need help
I believe i had the same issue and i had to fully take it apart. but the problem with doing that is you have a spring type of thing inside the motor. if you pull the motor apart anymore and are not paying attention it will fly out and it took me hours to get it back together
