The KX-T7731 is just the phone. The auto attendant is controlled by the PBX. To change the message, please consult the manual for the PBX. If you don't have that manual, please reply to this post and specify the model of your PBX.
A remote code must be entered to operate the system remotely. The factory code setting is "111" and you can set your own personal code by following the directions on page 31 of the phone system operating guide.
To check messages from a remote location, dial your number from any touch tone phone, enter your code after the greeting message begins, then follow the voice prompts.
The previous solution only works for older machines. I have the same Panasonic model and this works every time. On your handset, hit the top center button(menu). Touch the arrow down button 7 times. Should say "Initial settings". Hit top right button on handset (display shows this is now the "select" key). Display now shows "Set Answering". Hit top right button again ( select key). Display now reads "Ring Count". Hit arrow down button 2 times. Display now reads "Remote Code". Hit select key again and enter your desired 2 digit remote code. Hit "Off" key. When you call the answering machine from the road, simply enter those same digits. Piece of cake. Enjoy.
Press MENU, scroll down to INITIAL SETTINGS (press select), scroll down to REGISTRATION (press select), then select HS REGISTRATION, and follow the instructions on the handset screen. This is for the KX-TG6071B, but is similar for most Panasonic Cordless phones. That will link the handset to the base, and YOU MUST DO IT WITH EACH HANDSET.
