Check SP wires

Getting check sp wires and protection circuit shuts down reciever..checked and ohmed out all sp wires.. all ok. Reconnected still shuts dowm same note ..check sp wires. next steps?

    i checked my relays fueses ok when i start the engine i check the red wire going to the steering no cutent i checkedfor broken wires checked plugs in for bent pins no luck

If you checked wire carefully in high ohm reading and confirm no internal short circuit.-please follow me:-1-disconnect all speakers cables from receiver and check if it is fine-try to connect your speakers one by one until you find the bad one.if it is still shut down you will have a problem inside receiver itself and needs service center to fix.
-it maybe speaker check it also one by one with good known cable.

There is an internal short that is being detected. This is probably a defective output transistor that is somewhat sensitive to heat. This should be a straightforward repair with a parts cost in the $20 range. Add in the local labor rate for the total cost.

When I turn on my Yamaha RX-V657 without the speaker wire connected, it only stays on for one second and then turns off. No error is displayed on the screen. Is this normal?

you forgot to see the AVR works prefectly using speakers

why do that.
it there is sound source running, and loud and you have no speakers there, that can damage some amps.
so don't do that, some AVR have no error code, protection lamp

I have repaired amps (AVR and others back to 1960s)
the protects circuits trip 1 or 3 ways or both (tech facts)
  1. over currant the PA (power amps at speaker jacks)
  2. or imbalanced driver transistor pair (push pull or class A)
  3. or overvoltages there. now.
so if it has way 3, and he source is full volume and heavy metal band then it trips. no speakers due to output is way too high.
an amp that can do 1000w peak can do 90v peak to a speaker.
yours is 95watts RMS each , peak is not stated. nor is protects stated in absolute terms.

answer 1,. turn off all sources and volume down to run no speakers.
also it told you power off to connect. speakers.
when you do not power on the surge in the PC can be huge
so it tells not to do that.

Pioneer vsx 515 overload and shuts down what can i do to fix this problem.

hi,
First of all remove all the speaker connections from the amplifier. After that power the amplifier and check the overload (protect) show or not . if not, then any of the speaker is damaged or you have to check the impedence of your receiver and speakers. It will be written on the rear side of both receiver and speakers in ohms. PIONEER recommend to connect 8 ohms speakers in to this AV receiver. If you are using 6 ohms speakers you have to do some setting in the AV receiver.For that do the following

1. With the receiver in standby, press STANDBY/ON while holding down the SPEAKER IMPEDANCE button.( Each time you do this, you switch between the impedance settings: )


SP 6 OHM - Use this setting if your speakers are rated at 6 Ohms

SP 8 OHM - Use this setting if your speakers are rated at 8 Ohms or more


You are not able to connect speakers with impedence bellow 6 Ohms with this receiver. Becuse the AV receivers impedence range is 6 - 16 Ohms.
If then also it shows protect you have to check the amplifiers hardware.

AV receivers shows protect mode , when there is a hardware fault in side it. Its a warning that some thing is wrong.
Normally AV receivers show this when any of the output amplifier get some problem. there are six amplifiers in this AV receiver. May occur when the output diver transistors of any of the amplifier become shorted. if the output transistor get shorted this will lead to flow of current through the speakers. To prevent this there is a protection circuit for each channels. One combined output of this protection circuit is connected to the system control. when the any of the output amplifier fails, the protection circuit detects it and switch of the speaker and sent data to the system control. when the system control get this data it will give a warning to the customer through display that PROTECT.
You have to check the amplifier.
for that you need digital multimeter,soledring iron screwdrivers etc
open the amplifier , then power it on. connect the negative terminal of the multimeter any where in the chase( metal body of the amplifer). then connect the positive terminal to all the output transistors emitter pin one by one . the voltage should be bellow 0.5V. If any of the emitter of the transistor shows voltage more than 0.5V., then that amplifier stage is faulty. Remove the transistors and check it. if it is shot then replace with a new one.
after replacing the transistors do not power up the amplifier directly from the main. You have to put a bulb of 60 watts in serial.
You can do this easily remove the mains fuse. put the bulb in a holder. now you have to wire from the holder. connect one of it to the one end of the fuse holder and the other wire to the other end of the fuse holder. Why using a bulb is, if there is any further problem in the amplifier stage on which the transistors replaced, there is a possibility of the new transistor get damage. if we use a bulb in serial with its mains supply ,when any overload in the amplifier occur the bulb will drop the current, by lighting itself.
After connecting the bulb in serious power on the amplifier. watch the bulb. It should light for one or two second and go dim . if so check the display, is there is protect mode is on or not . if not and come back to normal operation ,then remove the power , remove the bulb insert fuse and check
connect the power and check.
If the bulb shows bright light then there is some component also faulty in the same amplifier. after removing the power you have to check again the amplifier stage of which the transistor is replaced, for any other faulty components.

Receiver shuts off says check sp cable

The reciever is telling you that their is a problem with the speaker cable. I sugges pinpointing which speaker cable it is by turning the system off then unplug all the speaker cables and then plug one in at a time, waiting inbetween allowing enough time for the system to pick up the bad sp cable. Then once you find the correct cable check it from the reciever to the speaker for any signs of breakage, shorts, or damage. Check the speaker connections from wire to speaker and from the wire to the reciever. If all that fails then check the speaker itself, try swaping another one in the position to see if the problem is solved. Hope this works.

Receiver shuts off. says check sp cable

Hi,
sp stands for Speaker.
What it is asking you to do is check for any type of short circuit on the connections to the speakers. This could be at either end. It is, in effect telling you that there is a wiring fault in that area and it has detected it because there is not enough electrical resistance in the circuit. hence, a short circuit. Wires touching each other. Examine the back of the receiver with a good flashlight and examine the connectors on each speaker. Note: it may also be responding to a broken cable.

Receiver shuts off intermittently, when you turn it back on it says "check SF wires". What are SF wires?

It's "check SP wires". It means (do I have to say it?) Check the Speaker Wires for short circuits.

Problem with sp cable (yamaha)

The speaker cables are the ones that clamp or tighen down on the back of the reciever. All the spkr wires have to have the positive and negative leads correct. Also not aven one little strand of wire can be touching another conductor or you will have this problem. Make sure all leads are correctly ran and hooked up positive to positive and negative to negative from the back of the reciever all the way to the speakers. This should solv your problem.

RX-V2600 shuts down

Try checking your speaker impedance. If you have 6 ohm or 8 ohm speakers make sure the impedence matches. On the front panel hold down button that says "straight effect" while pressing Stanby/On button, it will default to SP IMP 8 min, press straight effect again, if you have 6 ohm speakers, then press Standby again to exit setting. Also, double check your speaker wires to make sure they are all connected, and none are loose.

My Yamaha HTR-6050 shuts off at random times and says "Check SP Cable"

That is a check the speaker wire error, caused by a short or perceived short. If you look at the back of the receiver you may see 1 strand of the wire loose, they are very hard to see sometimes. You may use banana plugs as it is painful to get everything hooked up without a few loose strands.

If there is still the issue check your speaker connections for the same issue. If they are in ceiling/wall speakers disconnect them all then plug them in one at a time to narrow it down.

If the issue persists perhaps one of your speaker wires has a short somewhere, could be a misplaced drywall screw from hanging a picture, or a carpet tack strip, or a pet deciding it was a nice chew toy.

If you are completely sure it is none of those then I would say it is a bad speaker or receiver. Try changing in and out known good speakers/receivers if you have access to them to see which one it is.
