Hi Mr Circuitcity,
I hope all is well with you. I have a RCA rear projection TV model P52923. I was watching a show when it just turned off. I tried to turn it back on, but it would not nothing happened. No video or audio. I tried both the remote control and the TV buttons but it still would not turn on.
I opened the back panel and check the small glass fuse in the power supply (chassis # CTC195K3). The fuse is good. This fuse is near the 120V supply chord. There is no coolant leak.
When the TV is plugged in, I hear a ticking sound that gradually slows down and disappears. There is trace of black/brown hardened cake on the top of the flyback (looks like varnish, tar, or burnt insulation.) But I know that the caking has been there because it is covered with dust.
What do I check next? I have training in electronics but not really heavy on televisions.
Please help. The wife has been on my case since HER television broke down. (My only test instrument is a digital multi-meter.)
I could not find the model number of my TV from the products listed on the tab. So I picked the closest one which is RCA P52926.
Thank you very much
Alejo
Good Day, Ajejo;
Sorry I'm not Circuit City, but work for them for many years down here in TX.
The chassis number is the best way to find out information about the TV. The CTC195K3 is very commonly known to have bad 'flyback'. The crusting you indicated on top of said transformer is the indication that it is defective, I've changed 80-90 of them over the years.
So, job well done, your wife must be proud of you.
Part information: Location; T14401, Part Number; 239111, Name; IHVT, Integrated High Voltage Transformer.
Caution when replacing the fly, looking at the bottom, the pins are shaped like a horse shoe. At the closed end there is an separate pin. Make sure new has the extra pin (for focus), Iv'e had many lately that does not have it.
Good Luck, big IRISH. PS; good job good eye let me know.

I have a rca 52923 rear projection that I am looking at for a bar,
I know the ihvt is bad "scorching around the top". the part number on the side of the ihvt is "PN15128" a note on the side is 28kv.
the chassis shows 38kv.
What is the correct part number for the ihvt and the pass transistor. I what to change both.
The set is dead, fuse good. Are there caps to change after this kind of failure?
