Mmm, same thing on me. It was working fine before but for no reason it now does that. Line was tested ok.

Finally, I found it's because it needs to be connected on a digital line. Using a regular line will cause the unit to not detect any line since he's waiting for digital datas instead of an analog dial tone. I also found the user's guide here but it doesn't help. I just catched that it's part of a Norstar system.http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/TELECOM... ACU User Guide - Version 1.pdf

Dial tone nortel phone

It\'s in system programming: feature CONFIG, Terminals & Sets, enter ext #, Prime Line: set to I/C (for intercom dial tone) or Line xxx. It is probably set to None based on your description.

Not to be too obvious, but did you mean Feature*98?
Even then, it should be F*981, or another in that group:

You can adjust the ringer of your Nortel phone by dialing Feature *6, then using the volume bar to adjust the ringer while the tone is playing, or dial Feature *80 to adjust it there.

Is the nortel 7316 analog?

No, the T7316 set is digital, this is the reason why you cannot just take it home and have it work. Two different styles of signalling. The T7316 set only works with Nortel Systems.

Can't dial out

What are you getting when you try to dial out? Sounds or display wise? How are you dialing out? Do you access a line, dial 9 from intercom? The dial tone is probaly the phone system generated dial tone. With more information, I can help..
