My olympus stylus tough 8000 had a no connection message so I took out the battery and memory card. Then after turning it on it provided only two options for card setup: format or power off. I click format and yes, but then it says card error. It has this message for 3 different memory cards that I tried.

SOURCE: Olympus FE-210 Camera Problem

This is a malfunction of the camera. The same thing happened to mine. It gave me the option of power off or format card. I took my camera card to jewel osco and saved all my pictures onto a disc so i could format the card with out losing the pictures. I tried formatting the card and then the camera told me there was a card error. So I went out and paid $25 for a new olympus xd card, put it in the camera, pressed power and it said the same thing fo rthe brand new card that it had said for the card that actually had pictures on it. As far as I know there is no solution to this problem. You can still take pictures if you take your camera card out and use the internal memory. Olympus basically told me that I'd have to pay a **** load of money to have it fixed since the warranty is up.

SOURCE: Olympus c350, Memory card

Hi!

According to the user manual - the maximum size of memory card it can support is up to 256MB only. However, many users claim that it can support up to 512MB.

SOURCE: Olympus 2G xd M card with pictures - error message "clean card" or format

Just had the same issue today. The Olympus Helpdesk told me that the fact I had printed one of the picture from the Xd card in directly inserting the card in the printer slot for Xd created the problem....
The guy from the Helpdesk strongly recommended to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer exclusively using the USB cable of the camera.
In the end I have saved all my 505 pictures in using the Smart Recovery from PC Inspector but why the hell this problem only happens with Xd cards?

SOURCE: CARD SETUP that contains only two options 1. power off 2. format

As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased or lost. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images or corrupted.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".

My Olympus U tough 8000, has gone from working perfectly fine one moment to now saying "card error" and instructing me to remove the card and wipe with a dry cloth. All of which i have tried and...

With this error code that you're getting it's either the card slot that is failing or the card itself is unreadable. I suggest that you either try a different memory card first. If it's not available, use a card reader and insert this memory card to it and then connect it to the computer. If it can be read by the computer most likely it's the card slot on the camera that is having shoes. But then again it's better to test first another memory card on this camera.
Hope this helps.
