Why no sound from my speakers with Dell Dimension 2400, even though it's equipped for sound? Speakers worked fine plugged into Compaq.

If your current speakers are plugged in to the back of the computer, then there is no way to install additional speakers unless you purchase and install a sound card.

If the speakers do not have an AC adapter, they will not work.

Make sure the speaker cable from the speaker is connected to the speaker plug on the machine, usually green. If the speakers have an AC adapter make sure it is plugged into the wall outlet and to the speaker. Make sure the sound card is configured and working correctly. Best bet, new pair of speakers as they don't sell replacement parts for the speakers themselves

Are you have the headphones and speakers both pluged in? When you plug in headphones the speakers get muted. You need to change your sound settings back to your sound card if you use usb headphones. The plug on the front of the 4700 also automatically mutes the speakers.

1)Check audio Enabled in bios

2)Check whether audio drivers are installed in device manager if not install audio driver for DIMENSION 2400 from Support.dell.com

3)Check Audio port using Head phones to ensure is audio port is working fine.

4)If Dell speakers, check speakers Manuals from support.dell.com

It is possible that a setting on your soundcard has the pitch of the voices higher than normal or an effect is turned on that isnt required. Have you tried plugging the speakers into another source to see if it sounds the same?

Well with that issue you need to go out and buy speakers to plug into the back of the computer and then you should have sound!

Are you sure it's the speakers? Try checking the volume controls and/or plugging another source of sound in the jack like earphones. Maybe it's not your speakers, but your sound card.
