It may sound loud and like something is terrably wrong - but when we researched and took the pieces of the sprayer arm out all the way down to the drain - we found 2 small pieces of nut shells - that's it ! They were making the dishwasher sound as if it had something really wrong with it. We removed the nut shells - put all the parts back together - it runs perfect!! Just remember to place the parts and screws in the order they came out - so you put it back together correctly
Sure thing, a tooth pick, peice of gum, and some plasit. I cleaned it out and sounds great! Thanks iammykidsmom for your help.
Great, found some broken glass and nut shells. Works great now.
Thank you for this, I had the same problem, took it apart like you said and found a small piece of hard plastic. I did not believe that little piece of plastic was causing it, but it did. Running great now.

I have a Maytag Quiet Series 100 and a month ago posted an fix related to noise produced by this model - my fix was to tweak the food grinder blade by bending it so as to force more water up toward the impellar pump. Well, while that helped at the time, I found the the underlying problem was more related to the water fill level. This model has a safety mechanism that forces the unit to time out and stop filling even if with the float switch is "not floating" after a certain period of time. If the water pressure to the unit is low for whatever reason, you don't get a full tub of water. (That way, if the float level switch breaks, the unit won't flood your place.) Well, if it doesn't fill fully, the supply of water to the impellar is insufficient and you end up with caviation which makes a ton of noise. I tracked the plumping back from the unit to a crappy valve that was restricting the full flow to the unit - once fixed, the QS100 filled on time and didn't make the vibration noise any longer.
Possible tub bearing or transmission

My maytag quietseries 300 is just over 2yrs old too and making the same grinding noise after the first 1-2 minutes of operation. I too tried the filler cap option, moving it from 1 - max, and back from max -1.... still same problem. But I wonder, if it is the filler cap! I only just started to use the the rinse agent, cascade stuff and by the looks of it ... there is no rinse aid showing. Maybe tomorrow I'll go to the store and get some rinse aid to "help improve drying" and fill it up. My maytag, freezer drawer, ice maker fridge makes a growling noise too, every 30 min. AND my maytag stove/oven increase heat button does not allow to rise the temperature above 350F. All these appliances are just over 2yrs old, and come with 1yr warranty. NOT HAPPY with maytag and will never buy again. $70 for a service call, forget it, they will not get a red cent from me.
I have the same problem with the quiet series 200. The grinding noise happens upon starting. I am actually doing the rinse cap experiement now.haha! And I swear it is less loud! We'll see. Any ideas on what else can cause the grinding? Nothing is trapped and all looks clear!
I am not happy with Maytag.
Will definitely replace with Whirlpool next time! (all of our other Whirlpools rock!)

My Maytag quiet series 300 is about 2 years old and just began doing the same thing. Upon start up of any cycle the machine began making a grinding noise that will become quiter then it worsens. It seems to go back and forth making different variations of the same sound, not consistently the same. The grinding is more of a stressed sound not like a metal on metal grinding. More like something is trying to work but can't come up to full power or move at full strength or movement/flow. Dishwasher fills and drains with no problem and runs through the cycles properly as far as how it washes the dishes.
After a few minutes of running my dishwasher starts making a loud noise. I've tried removing the bottom components to see if there was anything caught and there is nothing there. I'm not impressed than two years after buying it that we're having this problem.
I have a Maytag Quiet Series 200 (almond/beige color), and I am having the exact same problem as everyone else. I have only had this unit for 1 year. The motor (or something) when running makes a loud humming noise. The noise gets louder, then softer, then louder, then softer. The noise is a loud humming that varies. (The pump possibly?)
Either way, this unit is virtually brand new. This is my first maytag. This is my last maytag. You can't give me one of these units for free.
