Maytag MDBH945AWW: control panel

I have the same dishwasher. I have found that this dishwasher had a control panel problem. After the dishwasher finishes washing you will noticed that the small green lights stay illuminated. Over time this causes the wire ribbon that connects the control panel to the circuit board to become burnt. I have already replaced my control panel once and now it has done it again. i am about to have to order another control panel. That is going to be another $140 dollars out of pocket. The part number for the control panel is( AP4365240). If you have the same dishwasher as I do it should be correct, Open the front door and look on the inside left and you will see the model of the dishwasher. Mine is MDC4650AWB1 Yours may be slightly different. look on the front of the control panel to see if it reads from left to right. High temp wash or extra rinse, sanitize, heated dry, start/cancel, delay, and cycle select. Since the dishwasher is designed poorly and the lights do not go off after drying, if you can after the dishwasher finishes with it's washing and drying be sure to open the door for about 2 min and the lights will go out by themselves. Then you can close it back. This will allow your dishwashr to last longer without the wires burning out. To verify that it is the control panel after you carefully remove it take a look at the wire ribbon that runs from the control panel to the circuit board. Here is a quick class on how to remove the control panel. open the door and on both sides you will find 4 star tip screws. remove them and seperate the door from the backing. After that you will need a socket to remove some hex tip screws that holds the control panel to the door. be sure to remove the black box that contains the circuit board. take the cover off and carefully disconnect the wires. the wire ribbon that connects the control panel is a little tricky. You have to seperate the plastic connector block and the ribbon will slide right out. after you remove it go to http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-panel--con-item-number-ap4365240.aspx and you will be able to order the part online to replace it. Be careful not to drop any of the screws and also pay attention to the door latch when you move it to the side while you work so that you do not break it.This is a response to another similar question but it looks like the same prob. I have found that you cannot just get the buttons you need to get the control panel assembly. Iit it the "flex buttons" they are stuck on by some type of adhesive to the plastic panel. I found that if you just peel off the buttons it messes them up. you need to remove the plastic panel in order to disconnect the control panel from the circuit board.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

You can reset it by pressing two buttons in sequence 3-4 times, to reset your dishwasher press these buttons in sequence:

Normal wash-Air dry-
Normal wash-Air dry

If the issue remains then test the thermal fuse on the control board and if it has continuity then replace the board, if it tests open then replacing the fuse is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Hello,
What you should check on to see if it is causing that problem,is a burnt door switch(s) on the door latch asm. To get the the lacth to check remove the torx (star shaped head) screws from the inner door panel and seperate the inner from outer panel. the latch will in the top center of the inner side of the outer door liner in the control panel. Use a meter set to a low ohms setting and MANUALLY push the little button on the switch and check for zero ohms,if it is more that zero or perhaps even switches from 0-20-0 an dback to 15 or what not the switch is bad. it would only be good if it were constantly zero and never changed.

The auto wash/start/delay start touch controls

It is possible the button contact has moisture or some contaminent. Best to open the control panel and check under the button. Take photos as you go along to make sure it all fits together. You can check the part locations in this diagram.

Heating Element Won't Shut Off

Usually when an electric dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat

It normally takes about 45 minutes for a dryer to dry a full load. If your dryer is taking more than an hour, check these.

Vent
Heating element
Internal ductwork
Cycling thermostat
Vent Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance.

Heating element Your dryer's heating element may be partially burned out. If it is, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three or four times as long to dry the clothes. If the element is partially burned out, replace it.

Internal ductwork Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Cycling thermostat Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork with two screws.

Ok, what I suspect has happened is either you main board's Fuse has Blown or the Breaker has tripped. You must be careful, whenever a thing like this happens, you must never just replace the fuse or reset the breaker, as the problem that caused it to happen in the first place will simply make it happen again. You MUST check out the DW FIRST to make sure it is SAFE. BEFORE you replace or reset. use these manuals above, one is your user and the other is a service and repair manual. If you wish, you could get a professional, and let them attend to it. OF course the is NO reason why you cannot replace the Fuse OR reset the breaker if you are NOT going to plug the DW back into that socket, and you could use a small light or such to test after replacing the Fuse or resetting the Breaker. It is also possible, that the actual power wire has gone "Open Circuit" too, so IF after replacing the Fuse or resetting the breaker, you still do NOT have power, we must now suspect the wiring, if so you will need an electrician, Always ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair.
