Playback problems on a sony hvr a1u. Got nowhere on the phone with their tech support- in fact never reached a helpful rep in that dept all day in three different attempts. Any solutions? Specifically it is sometimes stuttering on playback. I havent yet tested other cameras to see if they do the same or not. I also havent cleaned it in awhile. Doing both tonight. My footage is hi def mini dv tape. Any other thoughts?

I have Sony HVR-A1U. Had only 95 days. The LCD screen only displays when turned at 180 degrees and is flat against the body of the camcorder. The rest of the time the screen's display seems like it is...

I am one of the lead technicians at VideoOneRepair.com. We are a repair shop that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders.

The problem that you are experiencing with your Sony HVR-A1U camcorder is a common problem with this model camcorder. The ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the main part of the camcorder goes faulty and needs to be replaced. Sony also recommends that when this cable is replaced you must also replace a modified part to prevent this from happening again. The estimate to replace both of these parts is $360.19 parts and labor. This also includes cleaning and servicing.

We also offer a 6 month guarantee on the entire camcorder, not just what it was sent in for. The estimate and the return shipping are free even if you do not have the camcorder repaired. Please feel free to call, email or post any questions you have and I would be happy to respond.

Sincerely,
Sheryl Bahr

SONY HVR-A1U I DID PRESS THE RESET BUTTOM AND BEFORE THAT, THE CAMARA DIDNT WORK. DONT TURN IT ON HELP PLEASE

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Black LCD and out of focus

My LCD screen has also malfunctioned - some-one else has also posted a similar problem and has been told its to do with a carbon cable connecting the LCD screen to the camera that needs replacing.
Not sure about the viewfinder problem - is there a control to adjust the focus, or is that what you mean by the viewfinder lever?
Go to http://www.sony.co.uk/article/id/1218032872969 to register with sony for repairs.
