When I turn the flash I get no green or red light, but all the function work on the panel but it won't flash. any one got the anwser?
I just got the 580 and had trouble with it blinking all the time, the bounce card was out about a mm and I did not realize it, once that was pushed all the way back--voila.
I had a similar problem and was about to return it. Then i found out that the camera was set to MASTER. once i disabled this feature, the pilot light came and the flash ... flashes.
To enable/disable master settings, you press and hold the ZOOM button for two seconds and the menu settings will appear.
Another method to "reset" you master/slave settings is to open your battery door while the flash is on. Not sure if this is a good way to approach it. but it was HOW i figure it out
Now i have another problem. I WANT to use this 580 ex II as a master to another 550 ex flash. And of course, the 580 II will not fire.

I have the 580 ex II for about 2 months now an I have the same problem. Panel works but no flash.....
No red or green led but all function seems to work. No flashing.
