How do you reset ur password on a garmin nuvi 200w? i just bought a used garmin nuvi 200w but i dont know the pin for it. so how do i change the pin if i dont know the original pin?

Every time the 205W is powered on, you must enter the PIN, or drive to your security location you set up when the PUN was first entered..

I don't know how much use it will be to you but every bit of information there is on removing garmin pin numbers is there.

You actually have two problems; you won't just need the pin code, but will need to know at which location the pin code was set.

The system is designed to make stolen Nuvi's useless and cannot be bypassed without internal hardware changes which will cost more than replacing the unit. Unless you can obtain the pin code AND take the Nuvi to the location it was originally entered then it's totally unusable.

Chalk it down to experience and resell yours as being for spares or repairs.

Resetting the unit, as you discovered, will NOT reset or bypass a PIN entered to protect the unit from unauthorized use. The only ways to unlock a PIN locked Garmin are:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin. Be aware, however, if you are not the owner of record, Garmin will NOT return the unit to you.

You cannot do nat, to prevent stolen garmins to be sold. Send it tro Garmin and the will help You!

You can take it to the location where your granddaughter locked it, and it will unlock by itself (this is called the security location). It will then unlock, and you can reset the PIN.

Otherwise, you have to send it in to Garmin with the original receipt and they will unlock it for you. There is no master password.

Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."

So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

if this doesn't help, can you be a little bit more specific?

You need some type sharp (but not as sharp as a pin...don't use that) object to trigger the switch. I have used the ball tip of a ball point pen to do the reset. You will receive no on-screen message that the unit has been reset so don't look for one.

One way to tell if you have triggered the reset switch would be to have the unit turned on when you do it. The unit will then reboot indicating that you have triggered the switch and reset the unit.
