Garmin nuvi 200W GPS Questions & Answers
Got a used one and do i need a memory card for it to work?
That depends. If the device is still registered to someone else, it is worthless for updating. Garmin Express checks the registration when you try to update. The seller would have to deregister the device with Garmin. The device should work as is without an sd card, but you may require one (8gb or less) to install updates as the internal memory is not that big and maps keep getting bigger.
How do i reset my garmin nuvi 200w satnav it says no detailed maps found how can i reinstall them
Locate the reset button, located on the back of the device, in the lower left corner. Remove the sticker covering the button, and use a straightened paper clip to depress the tab.
To reinstall maps
Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable. You can only update the maps through connecting to your computer.
Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.
heres a link to the site;
http://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/login.htm.
Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades.
Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices.
Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer.
Download and install Garmin Express. This is the program that allows your computer to interact with your Garmin Nuvi.
Register your device in Garmin Express. If you haven't already registered your device, you'll be prompted to when you start Garmin Express. You'll need to register in order to update the maps.
Click the "Updates" tab in Garmin Express. This will show all of the available updates for your Nuvi, including the new map update you just purchased.
Click the "Show Details" option next to your Map Update. Click the "Install" button that appears. You will need to accept the agreement before the update installs.
Wait for the maps to download and install. Once you agree to the terms, the map update will begin downloading to Garmin Express, and will then be transferred to your Nuvi. This will likely take several minutes to complete.
Close Garmin Express and unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.
If you weren't automatically prompted to install Garmin Express, you can download it from
http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html.
Garmin troubleshooting
When updating your map you may have chosen a version that does not have your state.... like canada and eastern USA... etc... try reloading your map and select via mapsource the map that carries your state. Or install a 4 gb sd card with the full map if your nuvi has the card slot on the side... good luck
Gps is off after update
Hold the power button for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Release and then try turning it on again. If all else fails, call Garmin.
Deleted voice
Hello Sallilou,
If you deleted the voice files without backing them up you can try running the Garmin WebUpdater software. This program updates the operating software for your GPS and can be used to update maps and other files. It may be possible to reinstall the voice files using WebUpdater. (
To download the WebUpdater software go here.)
Some of the Garmin products do have voice files available for download via the Garmin website. (Namely the Quest product.) However the Nuvi 200W does not appear to have such files immediately available for download.
If you aren't able to update the voice files this way I would suggest you give Garmin a call directly.
Best Regards,
Ken

My garmin nuvi 200w keeps
1) Disconnecting the nuvi from the charging cable.
2) Press and hold the battery meter icon for 8 seconds. This puts the nuvi into "system test" mode.
3) Plug in the power cable.
4) Click "Exit." The nuvi should now reboot, but remain in GPS mode!
I forgot my pin
I
am assuming that it is asking for the security pin code before it can be used. You
need to enter the security code that was originally entered. The code
prevents the unit from being used if it is stolen and the code can only
be rest by calling Garmin and it may have to be sent in for repair. They
will require proof of ownership. I will attach a link to Garmin
support.
