Dear FixYa ... I have a New Bright 387 Holiday Express animated train set. The problem is the train will not go forward -- only backward. All the other parts work. I don't know if the problem is in the controller, engine or tender. I contacted New Bright but they do not do repairs or sell individual parts. ...thx...jt John Thomas [email protected]

    Dear geo ... My train worked well for several years and luckily worked well when my grand-children came. The next day it was only running backward.
    So yes it did work correctly and yes I did try putting it in the other direction on the track. I also re-cleaned the pickups and wheels.
    Sorry I did not get back to you earlier but I had a very busy weekend.
    FYI ... I live in Pasadena MD -- 25-miles SE of Baltimore
    ...thx...jt

    Dear FixYa and geo5734036 ...

    Sorry, but we are having a problem...

    geo responded with a question that I answered. It was not an answer or resolution to my problem.

    BUT I find that there was now a charge on my account and unless I do get some kind of satisfactory answer, I will refuse the charge or get it reversed.

    Geo asked it I had tried to point the train in the opposite direction. I answered that I had and tried everything I could think of. I also told him I live near Baltimore, MD so any repair place

    Please help ...

    Thanks,,,

    Dear Geo ... The train is about 3-4 years old. I bought it new. It worked fine until last year as I was "breaking it down". Yes, I tried putting it in the other direction but it still runs backwards. It does have some circuit boards in the controller and tender so somehow it gets "directions" that way.

    Geo ... Thanks ... That information may help. I will probably not get to it until Monday, but I will let you know.
    Merry Christmas to you and yours...
    ...thx...jt

Is the train new and if not, has it ever gone forward in the time you've had it? Also have you tried putting the train on the tracks facing the other way - what happens?

    Electric trains all work on the same basic principle; one side of the track is the positive, the other negative. Which side is which depends on what direction it is traveling, as the control circuit simply reversed the polarity and regulates the amount of electricity to the motor for the speed. As you now, electronics are fickle in storage; What worked fine when you packed it up last year won't work this year ( I have 4 strings of lights that did just that to me ) .Cleaning the track with a pencil eraser helps if you have no power at all, but probably will not make a difference in your situation. I suspect you have a micro - component on the printed circuit board that burnt which is causing this problem. I live on the opposite coast and am not familiar with Baltimore so I am unable to advise you on where to go out there, other than what I found in the yp.com website;
    R2s Electronics (410)477-1284 electronic controls

    I also found an R/C place that may be able to help;http://www.gpahobbies.com/GPA/newgpalink...

    The following folks are not New Bright but they may be able to guide you to local help in your area;
    http://www.mthtrains.com/
    I am not able to diagnose your issue but I have done what I could to help you;
    I'm sorry I could not give you specific procedures to fix this for you.
    I hope this helps you out and Thanks for using Fixya - Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

New bright greatland holiday express train

Check the connection from the transformer to the track, and that all the track is well connected. Make sure nothing is touching both tracks, shorting them out.

Are transformers for the 387 and 384 interchangable?

Check the output of the transformer going INTO the controler. Mine is 19VAC. IF the controler is working you should measure 25VDC between the inner and outer track with the controller switched on. If you have the AC but not the DC voltage push the red reset button. Once you have the 25VDC put your train in place (engine and coal car) and it should run.

Hi having trouble with our new bright musical holiday station electric animated train set...very frustrating as one of the train tracks broke off a little part so no matter what my husband tries to do the...

Yes, additional track is available from several places, such as Hobbylinc.com, and TowerHobbies.com. At this time, just after Christmas, they are out of stock, however. Walthers.com has them in stock (1-4-2011). You can find extra track on sale on eBay, as well. Be sure to get the track with the brass covers, as New Bright sells battery powered trains that use bare plastic track, which will not work with the 384. A Google search will turn up more sources.

I have a new bright animated holiday train from a garage sale and I think I am missing a power cord

You should have a 3 pieces to provide power....

1. A track connector box. Looks like a "T". It slips under the track to make the track power connection. The transformer plugs into it (2 pin Molex type connector) and the command console (has an RJ11 telephone jack type connector on it)

2. A large square transformer. One end plugs into the wall and the other into the track connetor box.

3. The Command Console. Has the on/off button, forward, reverse, mute, sounds and speed contol on it .. has a connector that looks like a telephone plug.

Unfortunately... DO NOT look to New Bright for missing or non working parts. New Bright does not offer repair or replacement parts for thier products. :-( ....

I need the controler for the SantaLand Musical Train Set

New Bright offers ONLY a 60 day replacement warranty after which there are no parts or service avaialble for this train set.

I would contact New Bright about a replacement or take it back to the store where you bought and select something other than New Bright products.
