Grind Adjustment Tools required: Large blade and medium Phillips head screwdrivers In order to adjust the grind, follow these steps (Refer to figure A): 1. Remove all coffee from the hopper. 2. Set selector knob to the finest setting (Espresso or Turkish) depending on the model. 3. Loosen both knob retainer screws in selector knob one turn only. 4. While pressing the bag switch, located behind the spout, press the START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 810 model - Press the ON or START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 5. With the grinder still running, turn the adjusting screw in the center of the selector knob slowly to the right until a slight clicking noise is heard. Immediately turn the adjusting screw to the left one grind setting. This is the finest grind obtainable. 6. Tighten both of the knob retainer screws. Once the ESPRESSO grind has been set (Turkish for Model 835, 875, 890), the other grind settings will automatically set correctly. 7. Press the STOP or OFF button. IMPORTANT: Always be sure the grinding burrs are not touching while the machine is running on the ESPRESSO/TURKISH setting. Otherwise serious damage to the motor may result. Coffee beans setting too small

* Brand and model needed for specific solutions.
* Check your warranty. Call for support

*** Following is for information only.***
* Bean grinders have a dial in front or a dial near the bottom of the been funnel (or bean bin.)
* Dials usually have size settings and may even be marked for the style of coffee to brew.
* Some of the smaller grinders have a dial around the collar of the bean container that have numbers or arrows pointing to coarse or fine grind. Some use a whole bean icon then smaller sand grind icon. Others may use numbers like 1-10 etc.
* For the super automatic coffee/espresso brewers they usually have a program enabled grind setting where a mini motor will adjust the grind for you depending on your coffee choice.
* The lesser "home" or office brewers may only have one setting and needs to be calibrated each time you change beans. (This is usually an adjustment knob or screw) Coffee needs to be brewed and tasted for each change of grind setting.
* Note that often changing the grind setting will also affect the ground coffee volume. (changing the size of dregs 'puck'). This also changes the flavor profile.
* Volume changes to brew needs to be done from the programing menu of the super automatic brewer.
* Espresso brews using a standard portafilter, it's critical to adjust the grind to the portafilter basket and dose water amount.
* Brewing in the coffee auto drip needs to have larger grind and more coffee to make up for the loss of flavor from large grinds.
* Smaller grinds intensifies the flavor but brings on bitter oils if ground too fine.
* Go slow and make taste tests each step of the way. Understand that it's a multi level balance between; Heat, Water volume, Flow rate, Pre-soak, coffee roast, coffee amount, besides just the size of the coffee grind.

Bunn g3 commercial grinder

Humm, G-3 grinders. Okay what common problems I've come across:
* Wrong setting for grind on label. Usually means worn out grinder burrs. But this does not happen often unless you are using it to grind commercial amounts of coffee? It's a retail level grinder meant to be user friendly and simple to use. Say grind a bag of beans once every 10 mins or so even with customers lined up to grind there own. Running a G-3 constantly is usually done by upcoming coffee vendors whom are using it for small flavored bean batches. But expect the burr plates to only last 3 to 6 months. We used to change it every month till the boss bought a bigger pro grinder. (whew!)
* Out of calibration (for grind) This usually happens as soon as it's installed. Either the grinder got banged (Dropped?) around or the lock nut was not tighten down. If caught quickly then it's a simple adjustment. Left unchecked will wear out the burrs or crack the plate.
* Trips out breaker. This is common at retail stores as it's located in a shelf rack that really does not have the required outlets. Many times there is a brewer(s) connected to the same line. It only trips out when one or both brewers are heating and the grinder is running a very fine grind.
* Trips out breaker when grinding espresso or very fine grinds. Worn burrs or slim chance the grinder was miss calibrated (but you would catch this when first installed)
* Shocks the customer. Dry climates or heavy air conditioning will build up static electricity at the chute. There usually a small chain attached to the chute to prevent this. Attach a SHORT metal chain or thin cable to the metal case of the grinder and add a metal clip to attach to the coffee bag. Many use a chain and clip just short enough to keep the bag positioned under the chute. Note many coffee bags come with bag clips. Just make sure the clip and chain can't get stuck in the grinder.
* Not working. This is usually the on/off switch as it gets beat up the most. There is sometimes a safety micro switch under the chute to sense if there is a bag there. I've found may have been defeated.
* No power, check cord, breaker (GFRI) outlet, Plug prongs if broken off or bent.
* power but no motor hum. Tripped thermal breaker (usually a red button on side or back. Some models may have it inside on the motor itself. Call for service to check.
* Turns on but loud hum (may be hot too). Burrs stuck. This could be from adjusting grinder while grinding beans and adjusting to a fine setting. Grinding finer slows down the beans feeding the burrs. Large settings flood the burrs with a lot of beans. Adjustments are usually done when the grinder hopper is completely empty. If loaded and turned down from coarse to fine grind the beans already in the burrs get crushed and stuck between the plates thus locking them in. It may be possible to clear the hopper and open up the grinder to its coarsest setting to jog out the crushed beans. Otherwise call for service to have the burrs cleared manually.
*Finally check with your vendor if your still having problems.

I just disassembled and cleaned my Gaggia coffee grinder. When I turned it on to calibrate the burr plates it made a short grinding sound then stopped and now won't turn on

Take it apart again and check all the connections and switches, security shut-offs, and THE THERMAL SWITCH. A very small and cheap electronic device that takes and overload and will shut your system down, whatever it is. Very easy and quick to replace.

I took off the grind settings knob on my Bunn G2 grinder... and now it won't grind!

oooooooooppppppppppsssssssssssssssss
you should not do this

the knob keeps two burrs together .The knob forces the screw (when you turn for grinding quality).
and adjust burrs far and close as needed
.reinstall it and turn the knob to the right until you feel tightness. Then, turn to the left 3 turns. and then adjust the grinding quality whatever you like .
thanks

Kitchen aid burr grinder adjustments

You are correct, the grider positions are locked internaly so the grinder will not go too fine since this can damage the blades and also too fine need more power from motor and also can block it by rottating normaly. However you ir open the grider you can overcome the lock and udjust so the grinder can grind more fine coffee. In order to be always at the safe side just move gradualy step by step until you find the perfect grinding and adjust so that will be the minimum plus one mor move for furure adjustment if you need.
Just for reference the corect grinding is for 7 to 7.5 gr of coffee the running time of the coffee from your machine should be 25 sec for 25 cc of coffee aprox.
Good luck.

Calibrate sm 90 coffee grinder burrs

Grinding setting is one simple operation but requires bit patience:

  1. Turn on your grinder and continue setting to fine while burrs are spinning, you stop when you hear metal to metal touch sound(burrs maximally closed finest grinding)
  2. From that point go back quarter of revolution and mark the spot where you stopped with marker to body of grinder and setting plate with one line
  3. Grind little amount of coffee only to fill one sector of dosser than test it at your machine (if it leaks too fast and with yellow color of cream you should go to more fine>><< if it does not leak from the filter holder or it leaks very slow you go to in opposite way.
  4. You test grinding few times bit after each reset of plate grind little amount and take that in one other pot (that will provide to have pure new granulation)
  5. After setting measure the grounded coffee that comes out from dosser it should be about 7 grams, better measurement you can get if you measure 10 doses in one place because you don't get never same amount from 6 sectors of dosser.

PS: the pump pressure of coffee machine should be from 8 to 10 bar and steam pressure should be from 1.1 to 1.5 bar> depends on type of coffees you use.
