Have hp photosmart 4480...continues to give message that I'm using incompatible ink cartridges, that the alignment failed, that I may continue but cartridges are not calibrated for best print quality, alignment page not detected, etc.. I've already replaced cartridges. I cannot print as whenever I send print job there is no reaction from c4480.

What is a incompatible print cartridge? The printer "Thinks" that the print cartridge, is NOT an original HP PhotoSmart one. Even print cartridge have chips.
this can happen due to, if you are not using origional cartradges. if not then the sensors that recognisse a cartradge are not working properly so you should get it repaired it by the company.
Something is wrong with your Blach carrier or connections. Use a bit of alcohol and clean the array of gold contacts where the Ink cartridge plugs in. Most of the pins are shutter and piezo control (get the ink on paper) but a few do other stuff like check ink level, # of hours runtime, etc. This is very common problem with inkjet printers. Hope this helps. Also... rub the contacts on the printhead with a pencil eraser to make them shiny and bright.
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point. 1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab. # Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer. then try to print if the alignment fails then you need to change the cart in the printer if its original hp new cart then get replaced .....
Remove both the cartridges from the printer and check the expiry dates on both cartridges, if any of the cartridge is expired then change the cartridge and check the result. If the cartridges are not expired then check the ink levels present in the cartridges from the HP Solution Center. If the ink levels are good then clean the copper contacts of the cartridges with a soft cotton cloth and power cycle the printer.
Turn the product off.
Unplug the power cord from the product.
Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the product.
Turn the product on.
Now insert the cartridges and align them, after alignment page prints then scan the page.
If it still gives alignment failed message then remove the cartridges and reset the printer and check for the result.
