How do I know if my battery is bad or if my charger is bad? The red light on my charger no longer lights up when I plug it in. This is for my Black & Decker Firestorm 12volt drill. Thanks

With a multimeter set it to 12 volt dc and place the leads on the two parts that would be touching the battery. If you see voltage then it is a bad battery.

Do the batteries charge? Are they charged? The green indicator normally is the status signal that the battery is charged and the red indicates that the battery needs charging or is charging. If you plug in a charged battery, some chargers will flash red momentarily then go out. This is an indication that the charger checked the battery (red light) and if the charge is good, the red light will go out. I hope this helps you.
John the red flashing light indicates a low battery When you charge the battery your charger should be showing a red light for power and a yellow light. When the batteries are fully charged you should show a red and green light on the charger. Now if you have a voltmeter plug the leads into the two outter holes of the charger port located under the front of the joystick.Without the charger plugged in you will be reading the battery voltage. Fully charged it should read 27-30 volts if you are only reading 20-24 volts then the batteries are low. If you have an onboard charger plug it in and you should read the charger voltage of 29-32 + volts If you aren't getting that voltage then you have a bad charger if you are getting the charger voltage then you have bad batteries and they need to be replaced Hope this helps you
Sweet you do not need to leave the charger plugged in for several days. Sounds like there is a charger problem When you first plug the charger in with batteries depleted you should be getting a red and yellow light with the yellow turning green when fully charged. now the charger (built in) could have become unplugged from the power module located in the rear of the chair behind the black cover. To get to it you have to remove the seat, shroud and batteries then using a phillips screwdriver and adjustable wrench remove the black cover. The charger cord will be the last one on the left with a small 4 pin white plastic plug make sure it is well seated in the power module. If it isn't loose then you have a problem with the charger or the circuit. Now if you know of a friend that has an off board charger for a chair or scooter that you can borrow you can charge the batteries using the charger port located under the front of the joystick Plug the charger into the port then into the wall socket and let er rip Charge until the light turns green overnite is a good habit to get into If the onboard charger is bad I would suggest you by an offboard charger (cheaper) Now if Medicare paid for your Dads Chair then they will pay for any repairs even batteries and you can contact the provider that your dad got the chair from to see if they will repair it Hope this helps
This is not right. They should last much longer then that. I have one of the more expensive 18V lithium batteries (the one with the button on it that tells you if it needs charging or not) and I can use mine almost all day before it needs to be recharged. I do construction work and I use my Ryobi products almost all day. Either both batteries are bad (I don't believe that is the case) or the charger is not charging them all the way to a full charge. With this charger, you do need to make sure that you remove the batteries as soon as the green light comes on. It is not good on these batteries to stay charging after they are fully charged. You also should not leave the charger plugged in without any batteries charging.Please tell me more about the charger. When you plug in the charger, does the red light come on? When you plug in a battery, does the red light stay bright and the green light blink? Does the red light go off and the green light stay on bright when you remove it from the charger? If the charger is not working correctly, then return it for a new one.
It may very well be a bad jack but it also could be a bad battery that is not retaining charge. Yes, a bad battery will cause many laptops not to turn on.
1- how does the charger jack fit; is it loose or wiggle when pluged in? or does it fit snugly with no movement when plugged in? If the charger no longer fits snuggly or moves a lot when plugged in, it may very well be a bad dc jack. Not a task for a DIYer but well worth having fixed.
2- Try removing the battery and see it powers on the charger only. Some laptops will not work without a battery and some will. If this is a Gateway, it probably will work without a battery.
