Honda car stereo

Bought a used honda and previous owners did not give code to stereo can not get it to work

  • Anonymous Jul 10, 2008

I own a 2004 Honda Civic. My battery was not working. After jumpstarting the car and getting a new battery my car stereo will not work. All I get is the display reading "Error E" and it won't play CD's or AM/FM.

    Please help.

I won a 2004 Honda Civic.
I had a bad battery and my car would not start. I had someone jump start it and it now has a new battery. The car runs fine but the stereo will not play am/fm or CD's. Regardless of what I do I get an "Error E code"

Please help.

Car stereo

There should be a display. OE radios tend to use the car's general purpose computer display.
If there is a code It is likely to be an OE product and the code and audio manual (and spare keys) should have been passed on by the previous owner. If such things are not with the car the resale price should be considerably lower reflecting the trouble and expense not having such things can cause subsequent owners.

If the previous owner cannot or will not help I suggest you contact your local VW dealer.

Honda civic gli radio replacement won't work

Dannielle, if the previous owner installed the radio, it must have worked. It is possible that error code may have no connection with the replaced radio which may work when connected to battery. It depends on the complexity of the new radio. If it is simple, s/b ok.

I bought a used car with the original car stereo in it. it displays loc on the screen of the sterio but i dont have the unlock code, is there an override code that i could use so i can reset the code for...

Yes. As long as any previous owners havent changed the factory set code, you can call a dealer and give them the vin# and they can give you the code. If a previous owner changed it then look in the owners manual because usually the owners manual tells you to record the new code in the back under "notes" or new radio code. Check there first or follow the change codes procedure in the manual and try to follow the steps they might have been told to and see if they did it. If not call the dealer and get the code from them and hope no-one has changed it.
Good luck! Scott

Stereo is locked and the previous owner doesnt know the code, I just bought the car, it's a 1993 BMW 525i

I had that happen with an Acura. The dealer can give you that info...but...some of them charge a fee for the info.

Code for stereo after battery changed

If you bought the car new, it should have come with a small credit card sized card with the radio code. If you bought it used, it may be in with the owners manual or other paperwork. If no avail, you will need to contact Honda with the VIN number to get the code.

What is the radio code for the 2002 Honda CRV. We just replaced a dead battery and now the radio does not work. Very Frustrating!

Three ways to get the code.
1.check the glove for the code, there might be a white sticker with the code on it.
2.with car on and radio off. hold down 1 and 6 on radio and turn radio on while holding down 1 and 6 down. If you're luck, the radio will show you the audio SN#. The first half of the SN# will be display first and the second half will be display next.
3.you will have to remove the radio. The SN# printed on a sticker on the radio.

call your honda dealer and give them the SN# and they will give you your audio code.
good luck

I cannot find the radio code. I bought the car

If you have the owners manual the dealer has probably put it somewhere in it. It is a 5 number series of 1 thru 6. If you cannot find it in the owners manual. Turn your stereo off and press and hold the #1 and #6 buttons on the radio. While holding them press the power button and that will give you the ser. # of the radio. You can contact your dealer and they can supply you with that info. Or you may have to contact the radio supplier for the code.

I just bought a 01 neon. The previous owner said he had to boost his car as he left his lites on. Now the stereo doesn't work. It has 3 lights flashing on I think the equalizer. I am told it is a antitheft...

I was under the impression that the dealer would give customers the code for their radio for free. Check with the last owner and see if he has it and knows how to enter it to get it working. When you get the code, save it. I haven't kept a factory radio for longer than it took to drive home from wherever I bought a vehicle, so, don't know how to enter the code. There is a code saver (small battery that keeps power in system) that you can buy/ use to prevent this in the future if you need to service battery.I'd also check with a different dealer...perhaps they won't be so greedy...

Stereo Code

if you look in your glove box in the owners manual under the stereo section there might be a car or a piece of paper with the stereo code information on it. If not you can call your local honda dealer and give them your vin/serial number and they can look it up on there computers and tell you what it is.
