One of those wires, not positive which without looking over the entire harness, is a ground wire. It connects to the frame of the truck. This is frequently green, but not always. If the trailer lights came with instructions on wire colors, then find the wire that is not listed in the instructions, and ground it. This should solve your problem.
the best thing to do is get a 12 volt lite tester the one with the pointie end. cut your harness turn on left turn signel. with tester lite grounded tuch the ends of the cut wire from truck strip a small piece of wire covering and attach to your trailor harness when left signal works on the trailor do the right blinker the same way as for running lites turn on your park lites and see witch two wires are lit connect to trailor making shure lites are dim last wire are for brake lites now you well know where to connect to new harness good luck cj
I suspect that the 4 wire harness includes a ground, so you may not be able to connect both brake lights and turn signals, which are separate lamps on the pickup. You may need to get an adapter.
In any case, the color codes on the pickup are:
Tail lights -- pink/blue
Brake Lights -- green/yellow
Left turn signal -- gray/blue
Right turn signal -- gray/red
Ground -- black
You have a couple options. The least complicated is to purchase a harness adapter that plugs into your factory taillight harness. The second option is to buy a universal harness and wire it yourself. Both of these come with very clear instructions, and can be done with very few tools.
You may have a tow hitch but no wire harness? You gotta buy a trailor wire harness kit and may need a professional to hook it up because there are a lot of wires to deal with. Normally the hookup it mounted near the hitch it self, but my guess is you don't have one.
You probably have corrosion in the socket on your truck. You'll have to take the plug in apart and check it. Or, it could be loose, damaged or broken wires leading to the plug.
sounds like something is up with the wiring on the trailor. you can also check the harness connector for the trailor, i have seen them actually corrode and short to other wires in the connector
