It's not unusual to lose signal indoors , in fact most portable /car devices receive very little, if any, signal indoors.

I have a Navman ICN510 running TomTom 6.0 software , instead of the standard Navcar CE program. I believe it connects much faster.

Below is a support forum for modding Navman GPS units.
It will teach you how to change the software on your navman & also help with any other problems. It was very helpfull to me !!

Finedrive 400's were manufactured by Navman over 8 years ago. Their maps are not supported for updated maps. Your unit could be having trouble identifying its location on an obsolete map.

When i turn my navman icn310,its just says waitin for gps,wot does this mean

It means it's searching for GPS birds. The initial process may take up to 15 minutes for the unit to locate enough birds to locate itself. after it's located the birds and itself, subsequent power on sequences should be shorter in locating the birds.

My Tom Tom One takes a long time to pick up a GPS signal (30 to 45 minutes)

You might want to try updating your TomTom through TomTom Home. It loads something called "QuickFix" onto the TomTom, which I guess tells the TomTom where GPS satellites are going to be. I get a fix in about 5-15 seconds if I keep this updated, otherwise it takes a few minutes.

When i put my Navman icn 320 on sometimes it takes upto 30 to 40 minutes waiting for the GPS signal to come through

Hello adamant,

In order to determine your current location the GPS needs to receive telemetry information from several GPS satellites. In order to do that it needs a clear view of the sky. This should happen fairly quickly, typically within a few minutes, but depending on how and where you are operating the GPS the process could take significantly longer or the GPS might be unable to aquire a satellite lock at all.

Local geography such as mountains, hills, tall buildings and heavy forest can block the GPS's ability to receive satellite telemetry. The same thing can happen if you are trying to operate the unit indoors or inside of a vehicle without an external antenna. That's why most GPS receivers are installed on the dash board of the car: the windshield and side windows provide it the best view of the sky.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the GPS receiver or the antenna. To test it, try using the device outside in a relatively open area with a clear view of the sky in all directions. It should aquire a satellite fix in about five minutes or less.

Best Regards,
Ken

Navman tcn 320 gps

From the Main Menu press the button underneath the spanner>Demo and deselect the first square if it is ticked>Save.

With your device turned off, press and hold the "OK" button in between the arrows and press the "On" button.

On screen you should see the "Maintenance Menu". Scroll to "GPS menu" using the arrow keys and select it using the "OK" button. Select "Perform a GPS cold start". When this has finished, press the "Home" key twice (the one with the three lines on it). Turn the unit off, then go outside, raise the antenna, and turn it on again. Keep it still for 10-15 minutes and the unit will start to pick up GPS again.

"Searching for Satelite" - unable to find

10-15 minutes is normal.
Did you take it outside? GPS doesn't work indoors. Try in an open field, no trees. Should lock in a few minutes. I always do the following: i key in the destination address at home, then put it under 'favourites". When i start driving, i put the unit in my car and look up the recently added favourite. The unit then has enough time to lock on to the satellites.

Navman S50

My Navman S50 has been working fine the other day it decided to show me the safety agreement when switched on then shows half the screen black with navman S50 printed in the black section the other half shows a picture of a pretty womans face looking backwards from a car window. I can get to the main menu and then takes me in a circle back to the safety agreement I've tried resetting by holding the on off switch down for 6 seconds when switching off the device is there any other way to reset my navman S50.
