may have wrong printer language being sent from computer to printer. See if you can print out a printer information sheet from the printer that shows the language it uses .
Then find printer driver on line for the printer that uses the same language and install it on the computer ,.

First thing to do is reload the drivers from hp.com. Sounds like the PCL drivers are hosed.

I Had the same problem from my Windows 7 pc's only,
i loaded the printer on an XP OS and Shared it and it solved the problem.

I found a site that helped me fix pcl xl error with my printer. pcl xl error repair tool

try loading a pcl5 driver instead of the pcl6. pcl xl is hp's pcl6 and some times has problems.
