Try this.. with your boot cd in the drive restart your computer. When you see the acer logo screen come up hit f2 to enter into the setup mode. Arrow over to the option that says boot at the top of the screen. arrow down to your cdrom and hit f5/f6 to change it to be next to the number 1. arrow over to exit and click save changes and exit. It will reboot your computer and the settings will change to read your cd first and you should be able to boot up with your cd now. To change your settings back when you are done, do the same thing, f2, enter setup, hit f10, it will ask to load setup defaults and exit, say yes and you will be back to normal.. Hope this helps!

I have had to format hdd (latitude d530) xp pro) but cant find original disc i got with laptop

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burning it to a CD.

The bootable ISO image file you need to download is called:

xp_rec_con.iso

Download the ISO file from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this free and easy program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer that is working.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD ROM drive as the first boot device instead of the hard disk.

These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.

If you miss it, you will have to reboot the system again.

When you boot on the CD, follow the prompts:

Press any key to boot from CD...

The Windows Setup... will proceed.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the Administrator password (usually empty).

You should be in the C:\WINDOWS folder.

This is the same as the

C:\WINDOWS folder you see in explorer.

The Recovery Console allows basic file commands like: copy, rename, replace, delete, cd, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, etc.

For a list of Recovery Console commands, enter help at the prompt or read about the XP Recovery Console here:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

hope this helps

I cant see disks in disk management how do i install operating system in my pc

You may not have created a partition on your hard disk. To install OS in your PC.

1. Insert your bootable CD in your CD/DVD-ROM Drive.
2. Press any key to boot from CD. Setup will then load the necessary files.
3. Once everything is loaded. Press "C" to create partition. You can specify the amount of disk space on your primary partition. You can also create another partition for the remaining disk space.
4. Select the partition where you want to install your Operating System then press "Enter".
5. It will prompt you to format the partition. Choose NTFS format and press Enter.
6. Once complete, it will reboot your PC several Times. If you're ask to press any key again to boot from CD...DO NOT press any KEY...Just wait for it to load. And it will continue with the setup.
7. Just follow the next steps...

Unable to install XP OS to MSI lap top

insert a bootable xp cd into the cd drive and hit enter continuosly...it ll ask to hit any key to continue from cd...hit any screen and follow the onscreen instructions...

if it doesnt works, try this....
u can log in to the setup by pressing del key or F2(depends upon make and model) and change the drive booting order...change the first booting device as CD/DVD and second booting device to HDD...
now it ll prompt you to hit any key to start from CD/DVD....
Make sure you have inserted a bootable XP CD in CD drive....Bootable XP CD's can be created only from another bootable XP cd by taking an image from that cd and writing it back to the cd...you can use NERO Copy disc option for this purpose...it ll create an iso image and you can use only this to write into the disc...

Where do i find a boot up disk for my hp pavilion running xp? currently the unit starts to boot and then restarts.

Trying to get a bootable XP CD is difficult if not impossible to purchase. Therefore you might want to create one.

I just recently created a bootable XP CD since I was building a new computer and wanted to be able to boot from a CD.

The following URL is a blog I found that helped me create my bootable CD

Create Bootable XP CD

You'll need an XP CD in order to copy the files to your hard disk and to extract the boot image from.

I already had an XP SP3 disk and didn't need to perform the "merging" like the link above does. I did find and download iso buster (freeware) in order to extract the microsoft boot image file.

I used the Roxio steps to create my CD. My version of Roxio was slightly different so the instructions were not 100% correct but I was able to figure things out.

If you successfully create your bootable XP CD you will still need your license key to install just as if it came right from the factory

Problem with PC bios not booting

If you are Windows XP bootable CD with u,

first u restart ur computer and change the boot priority in the BIOS setup . Then insert the bootable cd and restart computer.

When some message comes in the screen, regarding bootable cd, press any key for installation,

It will take some time to copy installation files, then configure computer hard disk.

Then u have to agree the continuation of installation by pressing F8.
It will ask u either to repair or install Windows
press appropriate keys for that.
It will show the disk partitions and lets u with options of creating ,deleting paritions .
if u want a partition, then select any large partition and press C and type the amount of memory(in MegaBytes) u want for the partition
After finishing creating partitions,
select any partition and press enter for Windows installation in that partition. and select "format and install" option . It will format that partition and restarts . there is nothing to do more .
After restarting , it takes about 40min to install(times inversly proportional to the processor configuration), it asks for the serial /product key fo ur windows bootable cd, and some general settings about time, time zone, username, passwords etc.
After that , Windows would get completely installed.
Then insert ur motherboard CD for installing driver for (audio, graphics,LAN etc)

Then ur system is ready with Windows.
Ask me if u have any difficulty while installing...

Hello

The Bios should not be your problem and the MBR doesn't have anything to do if you didn't play with Windows installations or with any utility to create an image of your hard drive.

To understand where the problem is coming from:

- Ask someone to go to http://www.knoppix.org/ and download a Knoppix CD

- Create a bootable CD from the ISO downloaded

- Enter in your Laptop BIOS settings and change the first bootable device as the CD/DVD

- Insert the Knoppix CD and boot your Laptop

- Knoppix will start and ask boot:

- Just hit Enter

- When Knoppix has finished and it's running you will have a nice graphic interface

- click on the HD icon on the desktop and see if you can see your files, if not you have a bad Hard disk

- Knoppix has also a utility to test the memory too.

If you tryied to install another copy of Windows or you made an image using some software like Ghost, you have to:

- boot from a floppy disk (Download and create from here http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm, I suggest Windows 98 SE)

- At the prompt type FDISK /MBR and press Enter

ATTENTION: If you type something different you may distroy all your files on your hard drive
