Upgrades Besides the DTV Converter Box, are there any other possible upgrades to this August 2000 television?

  • Tom-3 May 25, 2008

Realize that if I remain on cable or use the usual US satellite channels, I do NOT need the DTV C-Box. However, my future lies in areas away from the continental U.S.A.

The Tv is NTSC which is a broadcast and video standard for north america. different countries have a different standard than the us and will not work for this set and there are no upgrades or boxes that will convert the different standards to NTSC. also the electrical is defferent from the US 110v 60Hz AC line. other countries use 110v 50Hz or 220 50Hz. there are converters for this but what is the sence your set will not display a picture from the different standards (PAL,SECAM ect...)

The DTV converter is only required if you use an external antenna. If you have cable or satelite, nothing will change. There are no other options.

This changeover was mandated by the FCC which is a US agency. It has no jurisdiction outside the US.

I have a total of two standard tv's currently connected to my Dish receiver box 322. I would like to upgrade my main tv to a LCD tv. Can I still keep the 322 receiver or will I need to upgrade to a HD...

Hello, this is Nick Franta with DISH Network Customer Support.

You can still keep the 322 receiver with your new LCD tv. An HD receiver upgrade would be beneifical as well to make sure you maintain the best picture quality.

This link may come in handy for HD upgrades: http://www.dishnetwork.com/faq/default.aspx?Category=Existing%20Customer%20Promotions/Upgrades

DOES THE MINTEK DTV 260 REQUIRE A DIGITAL CONVERTER BOX

It requires a box "period". It is only a monitor with no tuner. You will have to get a HD cable box, or if your on an outside antenna you will need the hd converter box and also with satellite.

Want to run my dtv receiver through new digital converter box.

You will not be able to record local station from a DTV converter connected thru a directv receiver unless there is a a/v input on the directv samsung receiver. Also check the user manual for this receiver if recording from an external source such as a DTV converter box is possible. The answer to seperating the DTV converter box from the directv samsung receiver is possible if your tv has multiple inputs. Try connecting the DTV box to the RF input and the directv samsung box to an a/v input then change inputs using the tv remote. you will need an av cable (yellow/ red/white) for the directv box and a rf jumper cable for the DTV box.

Does a CT-27614A need a digital converter for antenna?

According to http://www.dtv.gov/consumercorner.html#faq9

I hope this soultion is helpful.

How can I be sure that I am buying a digital TV (DTV)?
By law, beginning March 1, 2007, all television reception devices (including TVs, VCRs, DVRs, etc.) imported into the U.S. or shipped in interstate commerce must contain a digital tuner. Retailers may continue to sell analog-only devices from existing inventory, but must prominently display on or near the analog-only device a Consumer Alert label with this advisory:

What is the difference between “Integrated” DTVs and DTV or HDTV “Monitors”?
An Integrated DTV set is a television with a built-in digital tuner (also referred to as “a DTV”). A digital tuner is also sometimes called a DTV decoder or DTV receiver. If you have an Integrated DTV, you will not need any additional equipment, with the exception of a broadcast antenna (either a rooftop antenna or “rabbit ears” connected to the set), to receive over-the-air digital broadcast programming. Integrated DTVs can also receive and display analog broadcast programming, so you can continue watching analog broadcasts.
In contrast, a DTV Monitor is not capable of receiving digital broadcast programming without additional equipment; it is simply a display device without the processing capability for DTV reception. A digital or HD set-top box must be connected between the antenna and the monitor to receive and display over-the-air digital or HD programming.
If you have a digital or HD “Monitor” and would like to purchase a digital or HD set-top box to view over-the-air programming, confirm with your retailer that the set-top box is compatible with your Monitor.

DTV Converter hookup

Is it possible to record TV programming on a VCR when using a DTV converter? h1 = document.getElementById("title").getElementsByTagName("h1")[0];h1.innerHTML = widont(h1.innerHTML); Hi,

I had the same problem and found this answer that worked for me. Hope this does the trick for you.

Simple stated, your VCR must be set to channel 3 also. Check it out.

woody

  1. You must have the VCR tuned to record on channel 3.
  2. You must have the VCR connected to output signal of the DTV converter box. In other words, the converter box must be connected between the antenna and the VCR. So, the likely configuration you would use with a coaxial cable is antenna to DTV converter to VCR to TV.
  3. You must tune the DTV converter to the channel you want to record prior to recording. The VCR won't be able to change channels on the DTV converter.
  4. You will be able to use the timed record function on the VCR but you must adhere to steps 1-3.
If this sounds freakishly familiar to recording on a digital cable or satellite set-top box, you are right. It is exactly like recording a signal from a digital cable box or satellite receiver. While it may be inconvenient to perform the steps above, at least the option still exists to record on a VCR while using a DTV converter box.
Disadvantage of DTV Converter: You will lose the ability to watch one program and record another with the DTV converter. Sorry for the bad news.
The reason is the tuner. The VCR tuner is useless with digital except for recognizing channel 3. The digital converter is a single tuner item so it only receives one station at a time.

DVD recorder with NTSC tuner

Hey Whormd,

If neither your DVD recorder nor your TV has a digital (ATSC) tuner, they will not be able to directly receive over-the-air broadcasts after the DTV conversion is completed without the assistance of a set-top converter box. Please keep in mind that the official analog broadcasting cut-off date does vary by country. In the U.S. this date is February 17th, 2009, and that Canadian TV stations have until August 31st 2011 to make the transition.

Please also note that you will need one converter box for each device with an analog tuner, in order to watch one program while recording another. One converter box would need to be connected to the DVR, while the second converter box would need to be connected to the TV itself.

For more information, I would strongly suggest checking out the FAQ sections of the official DTV websites established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Canadian Radio/Television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC):

http://www.dtv.gov/index.html (FCC)
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/ (CRTC)

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Digital TV Signal

Not if you cable TV, DirecTV, Dish network, or FIOS. The converters are not usable with those services.

If you use a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears, then, yes, you will need a DTV converter box. If so, I'd suggest getting one well before next February. Why? 'Cause the pictures are better, and you'll have access to "virtual channels", where broadcasters send more than one program on channels like 4.1, 4.2, etc. Also, if you have poor reception, you may need a better antenna to see the DTV signals. Better to know that before DTV is all that is being broadcast over the airwaves.
