I inherited a Laser 55 with an internal fuel capsule. If I hook up the internal capsule tank the kerosene fills up the fuel sump but once the kerosene fills the entire sump the kerosene will literal overflow from where the metal sump lid meets the sump. I appears to be leaking from one edge of the lid/sump area where there is some sort of bump out that's on the lid. So my question is this? Why do you think the sump is leaking and how can I fix it?

it is not a CAR it is a space heater, must we guess it is Kerosene

too much moisture will cause steel to rust or a low quality grade of steel.

You should check the filter at your oil barrel if you have one there and loosen the small vent screw to bleed the filter and line. You can also check the strainer in the fuel sump but remember to turn off the fuel at the barrel before removing the strainer from the sump. Also press the float reset button on the full sump. You can loosen but not remove the fuel line on the back of the heater if needed to get the fuel flowing. Be sure to place something under it to catch the kerosene and have some rags handy.

That heat tube is the ignitor it gets real hot for a minuet then the kerosene starts pumping in and it flames up from the hot tube. I would expect that kerosene is not going in to the burn pot. the kerosene valve control will make a ticking pumping sound about 1 minuet after the vent fans start. within seconds a flame should appear. If you remove the screen and open your line or tank valve kerosene should flow out of it. hopefully you installed a line valve just before the going in to the heater. I loved my laser 73 about 10 years old. but kerosene at 3.50 a gallon for the clear stuff made me install a ground source system. I keep it as a back up running it once a month for 1/2 hour. dave

I don't see an error code EE 56 in the service manual. Please verify the error code. What I do see is EE 6. This can be caused by several things. Most commonly a fuel flow problem or out of fuel. If you are out of fuel or the fuel just isn't making the fuel pump, the pump will make a loud ticking or thumping sound. You should check your filter at the oil tank, if you use an external tank. You should also check the strainer in the fuel sump located on the right side of the heater. Two screws hold the cover on. You need to turn off the fuel valve at the tank and have some rags to soak up the kerosene that will come out when you remove the two screws. Take the top off the fuel sump and inspect it also. Kerosene sometimes gels up after sitting a while. The fuel nozzle also gets clogged with carbon from time to time. You can clear this by removing the fuel line from the combustion chamber and inserting a piece of wire into the hole about 2 inches. Another possibilty is a dirty flame rod. You can clean it with some steelwool. Let me know what you find if this doesn't help.

That depends on where the leak is. If it is leaking out of the fuel sump the needle valve in the sump could be stuck or just leaking by so that the sump is over flowing. You could also make sure the fuel line fittings are tight where it connects to the pump and the burner chamber. If you are using an internal tank you should take the tank out and look down in the heater for kerosene. Check the fuel fittings in the back of the heater. Has the heater been working? If has gone through several attempts to start but hasn't lit kerosene could be built up in the burner and you should check the igniter. Also you would want to dry up any excess kerosene in of the burner. There are also some o-rings in the fuel pump itself but I wouldn't think they would be leaking. Basically there are not a lot of places it could be leaking just follow the fuel line from the back of the heater to the burner. You may need to wipe up the kerosene and then look for a drip. Hope this helps.

This is probably a little late but I'm assuming you have an outside tank. When you had it refilled it may have stirred up the gunk in the bottom of the tank. You should check your filter at the tank if you have one. You should also check the strainer in the fuel sump in the heater that is located on the right side of the heater where the fuel reset is. You should shut the valve at the tank before you do this and be prepared to catch or soak up any kerosene that will come out. The strainer is located behind a small plate with 2 screws holding it on.

it sounds like it may be a clogged strainer located in fuel sump or a bad circuit board hope this helps

make sure the high voltage lead to the sparkplug isn't touching anything metal on its way to the plug. the clicking may be the high voltage discharging to a metal part, not the plug. those wires age during use.
