Compressor short cycles no matter what setting it is on

assuming you have ck'd the water collection bucket full switch for proper seating , im sorry to say that short cycling on compressors are a sure sign of low gas pressure , and no its not easy to add more

Your compressor has a direct short there is nothing that can be done just replace dehumidifier. If you replace compressor it will exceed cost of new unit. If this helps you please rate me and do a testimonial.

The cycling is related to physics, different ambient temperatures will make it perform differently, over time. What matters is the output temp, (and the pressures).

The black cylinder is the compressor. It sounds like your unit is cycling the compressor for some reason. If the compressor starts, runs fine, and removes water when you set the humidity control to the driest setting the compressor is probably OK and the problem may be with the humidity control causing the dehumidifier to "short cycle" for some reason. You may need to change the humidity control or relocate the dehumidifier in your crawl space.
If the compressor attempts to start, and then sits quiet for 10 minutes, and then attempts to start again, you have a problem with the dehumidifier. There are a few things that can cause this problem:
Low refrigerant charge
Bad compressor capacitor
Bad compressor overload
Plugged capillary tube or broken expansion valve
are the common causes of this behavior. If you suspect one of these problems, call the factory service department at 1-800-533-7533 for help.

fan should turn off when compressor not running, the relay switch is stuck open for the fan, and probably needs replacing, but even if it always runs there is no harm and it only uses like 15 watts

I had this problem years ago when I lived in a more humid area, but I don't remember the exact details. I figured out that a switch was turning off the compressor. It may have been a heat sensitive switch, operated by a bi-metal actuator, and I either adjusted it someway, bending perhaps, or bypassed the switch. Sorry my memory is so hazy.

Compressor won’t Start
The Main reasons that this will happen
1 - A bad run capacitor (silver or metal capacitor)
It’s either shorted, grounded or open.
If it’s shorted a lot of times it will bulge out, (sometimes slightly)
2 - A bad start kit ( plastic capacitor and Relay connected to it )
The capacitor is either shorted or open
The relay either has an open coil between terminals #1 and #5
Or the relay is stuck.
Any time you change the capacitor or relay you should change
the other, especially if they are over a year old.
3 - A loose, burnt or disconnected wire
4 - Wired wrong
5 Compressor is open (windings burnt open)
6 Low on charge not getting enough cooling back to compressor, (Feel top of compressor to see if it’s hot it shouldn‘t be)
7 Some compressors have a black plastic overload under the compressor cap which could be bad.

If the coil is freezing up and the compressor is short cycling,there must be a low pressure switch opening, do to either, low on charge or not enough air across the coil.

Make sure conditions are not too cold or too dry already.
Is the compressor running?
Set the unit to the continuous run setting or the dryest setting
compressor should start.
If compressor runs but the evaporator doesn't get cold the freon has
leaked out.
If compressor doesn't run no matter what you do the board may be bad.
Also the fan must blow air.

sounds like the fan motor is bad most are not repairable new ones about 50$ dan
