First remove power cord from the wall for five minutes o reset the firmware. Then power on again and let the firmware load before inserting any dvd or cd. If it still can not read the disks, you use TDK lens cleaner until it can read the cleaner disk. It maybe power line glitches, you may need powerline filters for this dvd player.

Does not read Cds or DVDs

most sony CD and DVD players have a digital signature design to play CDs and DVDs that are original and licensed. some CDs or DVDs dont work since the player does not recognize or scan any digital signature embedded in the CD or a DVD. 2nd, lens problem causes most players not to read CDs nor DVDs. you can try to buy CD or DVD lens cleaners to have your lens cleaned.

Does the toshiba sd 2502 , can it burn cds

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

My cd drive will read cds but not dvds i try to istall somethig it wont work

Hi dkush29306,

while the other two posters have pointed out the obvious, that CDROM drives only read CDs, and that you need a DVD drive to read DVDs, i would like to add something to this.

I will asume you have a CDROM COMBO Drive, that *should* play CDRs and DVDs.

if you find it does spin CDs up and read them, but not DVDs then i might be able to offer some suggestions.

firstly, make sure there is no software conflicts (like two CD Writing softwares trying to use the CD Drive at the same time.. ). you shouldnt have to worry about drivers for the CDROM, as the default OS ones should suffice. but they may be corrupt. you could goto Device Manager if you are on Windows, and uninstall and reinstall the driver for the CDROM. it should find it automatically in the install wizard.

ok at this point i don't see how software could cause any other issue , so we should look at it being a hardware issue:

if you have the ability, try changing the IDE Ribbon Cable that connects the CDROM to the Motherboard. if that doesnt work, try changing which plug in the IDE cable the CDROM plugs into. these plugs usually have a blue plug at one end (motherboard end), and there is two plugs at the other end, or master and slave. keep the jumper pin on the CDROM set to Cable Select, so you dont need to change it to slave, when its plugged into the slave port, or master pin if set to the master port.

finally, if none of that helps (and it probably won't ) you might find that the actual fault is due to the laser in the CDROM not focusing tightly enough and therefore cannot read the data on a DVD ROM because of this. the only way to tell if this is ok or not, is to plug it into another computer and see if it can read DVDs.

you might just be better off spending 20-50$ and buying a new CDROM Combo drive from your local computer hardware store.

My writemaster sh-w162 will reconise cds but not dvds can you help, im using library computer .it will copy or burn cds not dvds

actually the problem of your writemaster is the speedometer or what we call Laser Eye. This Laser Eye is damage but not totally can read only CDs but not DVDs, you can no longer burn a DVDs on it, i experience to that, only CDs can read and write on it. This time you buy a new DVD Writer to replace on it, or if warranty you can send it back to the Store you buy. I tell you it is still not working.. Just buy a new one. Good Luck!

My DVD drive in ACER Aspire 4720 not reading burnt DVDs and CDs

well look for cds that are thicker and sturdier. some low cost CDRs are too thin and/or soft that they cant handle the heat generated by the cd drive.

CD / DVD ROM problem, can read cds or dvds that I create

Sounds like your need to install the codecs. Here's a good set of them: Download the full version and you might also want to check your dvd decoders,

Portable dvd player will play music cds but not video dvds

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...
