Blinking amber light will feed labels but doesn't print on them

I just changed the label stock. I am using 9176 labels. I have been using this successfully since March 1st since I started to work here. I have shut off the printer, cleaned the head, unplugged the printer and rebooted my system. When I look for the print jobs by opening up "printers & faxes" nothing shows.

    I have the same issue

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I have seen this problem many times while working on wal mart pharmacy network issues. There is going to be one of a few differnet problems it can be. But before I can get into any of them I need to know if the printer is a network printer or if it is connected directly to just one computer. Dose it print lables from more than one computer or just the one?

I have had the same problem and just got my printer working. I moved the peel lever to the lower postion and the printer now works without any problem. The user guide says to postion the lever to the up position (inactive) but that caused the amber blinking lights (not recognizing the label properly)when loading labels. Hope this helps

On the Zebra it was printing 4x13 labels without a problem. However when I tried to print a 4x6 label it still thought there was 4x13 stock in the printer. I played around with the label format size, even...

I think this is more related to the calibration of the label each time you change the new label size. I use ZM400 and your printer should also have the same setting. Under setting, put the When Head Close setting to Calibration. This will let the calibration perform automatically when ever you load a new label size and close the print head. Well 2 label will be lost every time.

Own three CP3525dn's (purchased new). Two have recently begun jamming [fuser wrap] when printing labels. If it doesn't jam then the paper usually "dog ears" coming out. New fuser did not...

Over time, printing labels builds up a light residue of the adhesive (due to heat pressing) used on the labels in the paper path. A thorough cleaning of all paper path parts with alcohol prep pads, or Glass Plus and quality paper towels, will reduce this gum build up.

You should regularly print standard paper jobs on a laser printer that will be printing labels. Rule of thumb is 4:1 - four sheets of regular paper print for each sheet of labels printed. This helps keep the adhesive cleaned out of the paper path.

Patience and a lot of scrubbing should do the trick, though you may have to install a printer maintenance kit early given the issues noted. Printing labels cuts maintenance kit duration in half, at a minimum.

1. turn the power off
2. hold the feed button down
3. turn power on, the feed button should blink, release the button.
4. when the feed button blinks green, press and hold until it turns red or amber. release the button.
5. turn the power off.
6. hold down the feed button and turn power on, the button should blink and release. it will now print a calibration page. 4 blanks followerd by 2 text pages, the last saying "Now in DUMP" press feed to exit. on the first print, the 4th line down will say either page mode or line mode.

Losing half of top line when printing

Label definition in printer driver may need adjustment. Try calibrating printer, printer on solid green light, hold down feed key & release after light blinks 4 times, (blinks once, twice, three times then 4 times) Download the Zebra setup utility and use it to configure printer.

Zebra Z4M only feeds a small portion of the label.

You should try a factory reset. Power off the printer. Hold the "pause" and "feed" buttons down while powering up. Allthe lights will blink and when they stop blinking, release the "pause" and "feed" buttons. This will factory reset the printer.

Also, what I did was to first back all of the labels out and back into the reel. Turn machine off, then back on. With the peel lever down, as mentioned above, begin to load the labels as shown. The light will blink and it will make a noise as it senses the label. It will begin to draw the label in and you need to make sure you create tension on the labels as they are being pulled in. I accidentally did this by holding pressure against the reel, and sure enough, the thing pulled the first label into place and quit frickin blinking!!! Labels printed fine afterwards!

TLP2848Z blinking red, will not print

1: Is it a TLP2844 or a TLP2844Z.

Operationally they are completely different printers. TLP2844 uses ELP (Eltron Programming Language. but TLP2844Z uses ZPL (Zebra Programming Language). You need to calibrate the printer to the labels.

Calibration:
If its a TLP2844. Load media. Connect power.
Hold down feed key, power on, count one, two, release feed key. The printer will go through a calibtation routine and print config label. IMPORTANT - When it prints this label you must press the feed key and see the message OUT OF DUMP. Your printer will now be calibrated. Check this by hitting the feed key a few times and printer will feed one label each time feed is hit.

Calibration:
If its a TLP2844z.

Load media. Turn printer on and wait for green light (Approx 1 minute)
Press feed key and keep it pressed until green light blinks once, then twice, now release feed key.

Zebra LP 2844

The printer is in line mode. Do the following to take it out of line mode:
Turn printer power off.
Hold the feed button while turning printer power on.
When the light starts flashing, release the feed button.
When the light starts flashing again, press and hold the feed button.
When the light turns steady amber, release the feed button.
When the light turns steady green, the mode is changed.
Verify the mode by printing and inspecting a status report.

This requires good timing and may take several tries. You'll know it worked if no labels are reeled out after you're done.
