I need to troubleshoot a cd laser assembly tracking system. My player usually plays cds ok but sometimes it will show 'no disc'. Other times it will play a track but will then make a clicking noise and stop playing. This has happened with multiple discs, so the laser reader is okay. When I remove the disc sometimes the laser assembly is half way in the track, instead of being on the inside track. It's a cheap no-name unit, but I'd like to repair it if it's easy to do.

SOURCE: cd will not play and keeps ejecting

source http://www.kenwood.nl/support/veelgestelde_vragen/ Changer Error Codes ? E-00: Poor Cable connection. ? E-01: Magazine not properly set in changer. ? E-02: No Disc in magazine. ? E-03: CD does not have selected track number. ? E-04: Disc is dirty, upside down or unreadable. ? E-10: No data is recorded on the MD. The player plays the next disc automatically. ? E-99: Changer malfunction, disc may be caught in machine or changer requires service. Sounds like the mech is gummed up, jammed, or a cd is stuck inside. Get a nerd to open it up and check it over. SOURCE: Kenwood head unit CD and AUX sound not working

I fixed the sound problem with tech support from Kenwood. I had the blue wire from the Kenwood which is the antennae turn on wired to the amp turn on for the vehicle (2001 Blazer with Bose factory stereo). This is how I was told to wire it from the installation tech where I purchased the wiring harness. The tuning played fine because the Bose amp turned on when I played the tuner but when I played the cd or aux the amp turned off, thus no sound. The kenwood tech toldd me to wire the blue/white wire to the amp turn on for the vehicle so the amp would be on when ever power to the Kenwood was on. I rewired this way and everything works great now.

SOURCE: Kenwood KDC-119 car stereo problem

sometimes, if you unplug the main radio harness out from the back of the radio-leave it unplugged for about a minute you can reset the electronics that are now locked up- after you plug the harness back in you shoud hear the cd mechanism moving- now press the eject button- if there is no mechanical problem the cd will eject. If it won't you can email me at [email protected] or call me at (908)756-3544 if this helps you please give me a good rating

Skipping

HelloThe laser pickup unit [Lens assembly] has the trouble. Either it may be damaged, or accumulated dust particles obstruct the laser beam. Just put in a cleaning disc [this disc can be bought from most of the electronics spare part shops at your town], play it for at least three times. If the fault is due to dirt and dust, this process of cleaning will help you. If not. replace the flat ribbon plastic cable, that connects the laser head assembly to the main board. This cable has carbon tracks, instead of metal wire conductors in it. These tracks are likely to get break, during time, because, this wire have to travel along with the laser head assembly, while it tracks the CD. In most cases, the above said two processes will rectify the problem. If these does not help you, you have to replace the laser head assembly with same type and number. Insist on same type and number, as audio CD player laser assemblys have special chareteristics. OK.

3 disc Phillips cd player sometimes skips. It is

At some time in its life, the laser that reads the CD starts to get too weak to operate reliably. That's probably what's happening here. Unlike mechanical parts that can be inspected for wear, electronic parts tend to work fine one day, then the next, poof. The laser assembly is replaceable if you can locate the part and find someone to install it. An electronic service shop could give an estimate for repair. If you can provide the full model number, I'll see if I can find the part number.

Yamaha CDC-765: sometimes skips when playing CDs

The problem is in the laser for sure. Try cleaning with a cd cleaning tool. It's the easiest solution because changing the laser is not always available solution.

Player stops mid track and shows ''no disc''.

HELLO

Have you tried cleaning the lens? It's incredible how a dirty lens can cause so much grief! You'll need the CD player cover removed and powered off then get some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Wet the bud but not too much get any excess moisture off.

Using a careful circular motion clean the lens, let it dry and try the player again. If this does not cure the problem, you may have a defective laser and that will need replacing.

ALL THE BEST (:-)

CD playing erratic

Run a "Laser Lens Cleaner" thru the unit a couple times. Use one that takes fluid, you can find them at just about any retail store for 15-20. If that doesn't solve it, it needs to be repaired. At that point weigh the cost over replacement. A new transport usually will cost 100-150 on average for parts and labor. Hope this helps

Jvc kd-sx770 car stereo--radio works, but cd player doesn't

Hello beeswing70,

The player is recognizing that a CD has been inserted but is not able to read it.

Sometimes the lens assembly becomes contaminated and obscures the laser. I'd try using a commercial "lens cleaning CD" two or three times and then try a CD again. These lens cleaning CD's are widely available. If cleaning does not help, the player need professional service.

Hope this helps.
