Setting up an access point to have same settings as the router?
I posted this on 3 other forums but no one has replied or can help me...PLEASE help!
EDIT: I forgot to mention my access point firmware is 3.04 (latest version) on the WAP54G EDIT: Oh and the WAP54G is setup as a basic access point hardwired to the router I've posted this problem on 2 other networking forums with no replies or fixes....hoping someone here can help me! Hello. New to the forums here and thought someone could possibly help me. I
network a small business hotel for a buddy and I set up a WRT150N
router connected to a WAP54G access point. The problem is none of the
settings for the router cross over to the access point. For instance: The
router has it's own ssid of 'hotel' and the access point also has its
on ssid as 'guest' because the access point is what the guest will pick
up. Well in the router config. page at 192.168.1.1 I tried to block
certain web pages for instance lets just say http://www.google.com
and then save settings. Well on the main computer the router is hooked
up to google.com will be blocked. But for anyone logging in wireless to
the access point (which is connected to the router with the settings)
will be able to access google.com This also happens if I do mac
filtering to allow or deny access. However on the access config page at
192.168.1.245 there is options that will allow me to do mac filtering,
but anything else i would like to configure is not available on the
WAP54G like QOS to disable certain applications
or priority level by mac address so I can add my laptop and in and set
it to high, and also doesn't have options for page blocking or setting
specific times for internet access only. I thought hooking the
access point straight up to the router would in theory take the settings
from the router to the AP but it doesn't. I can block a device from
accessing our network by mac address on the router but it will still be
able to connect on the access point, seems weird like that should make
no sense at all...so i think im doing something wrong.. Anyone
know how I can get my access point to recognize the settings i put on my
router like web page blocking, mac filtering, internet use by time of
day, QOS ect...any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for taking
the time to read this and I look forward to being apart of this
community.
This is probably my last stop in finding a solution. I heard this site was the best from another site, so im hoping! Someone on another forum said something about changing router ip to 192.168.0.1 and ap 192.168.0.2 but when i changed the router i couldn't log in again...i dunno..

yes that was my first stop. I'm going to be at the hotel real soon. So just go into the WAP config and set it to repeater mode and enter the routers MAC address in there? And also change the ssid and password to the same as the routers ssid and password? and thats it? it should work ?yes that was my first stop. I'm going to be at the hotel real soon. also if its in repeater mode can i still have it directly connected from the ap to the router? that way signal strength will be better cause the ap is like 100 feet away.also if its in repeater mode can i still have it directly connected from the ap to the router? that way signal strength will be better cause the ap is like 100 feet away.
Still with me? I tried that and still the same, internet works fine, both same ssid and password but mac filtering/web site blocking doesnt work. Also just to make sure I got on the office computer which is directly connected to the router. I logged in the router then went to access restrictions and entered a website to block and saved it, but even on the main computer hooked up to the router i can still access the webpage. So im not sure what to do? Maybe the AP is configured right now and internet works fine, but if I set restrictions inside the router and can access the webpage right from the office computer that's hooked up to the router and it still doesn't block it i dunno what to do? Please help ...
But as of right now the AP is wired directly to router, about 100 feet away, the settings in the AP have the same ssid and password as the ssid on the router so now only 1 ssid broadcasting, and I entered the routers mac address on the router and saved it, and connection to the internet through ap is fine...but how to block webpages and use mac filtering? lolStill with me? 192.168.0.50 is the default address for your router, if router was boxed and new, this should be the router IP.
The router configuration must be done using a cable connection, cannot be done using wireless.
If you want to reset the router you can hold pressed the pinhole reset switch until the unit will restart, about ten seconds, this will reset IP to 192.168.0.50 . If router is irresponsive after reset and ethernet cable is tested and fine , then the router may be faulty. You can call the phone number listed on the router manual to get online assistance.
If the router was not new, but had been re-programmed , the default IP may have been changed manually by the user, in this case do the following to find out the IP.
Click start button
Locate and use Run command
In the Run box type CMD, this will open command prompt.
in command prompt type: ipconfig /all
THe router Ip will be listed as 'Default Gateway'...192.168.......
You can also find IP by rightclicking on network connection, in Windows and choosing Status. ClThen clicking Support tab, and finding the default gateway IP address.
You have to configure the WDS on the 3comm, configuring it to the MAC ADRESS of the BT router (if it is wireless), if not connect it by ethernet and set the 3comm as WDS allowing the other 3 more u want to add as acepted MAC ADRESS for access points.
