Rechargeable Camping Lantern

Hi,

I have a 12v rechargeable camping lantern which now switches off after a few minutes operation. On letting it stand the unit works again after a few minutes only to cut out again, later on.

The lantern works off a rechargeable gel battery and powers a "four-finger" shaped flourescent globe. It has three LEDs to indicate battery level and charging status. Inside the unit is a PC board approximately 13cm x 6cm of electronic components. It's been working fine for the last 18 months.

I've ruled out the battery, (replaced and checked charge holding capacity) as well as the globe. A replacement globe also keep switching off.

Any ideas on what to look for please.

Thank you,

Paul

Issue with Coleman 4345 rechargeable lamp.

It sounds like the internal battery is faulty. Have you tested the time the light will stay on at low setting against what the advertising says 66 hours? The Cree Light module has a current sensor in it and will cut off when there isn't enough current.

Pretty much impossible unless you fish it through with a snake wire. You don't say why you are trying to do this? Just use a standalone rechargeable LED light or lantern.

JML 2866 rechargeable lantern. How do you release the fluorescent tubes?

You just turn them 90 degrees and the pins will be visible. Just pull the tube out towards you. The slots are visible in this image.

Does the red light turn green when the retro Coleman 5312 is fully charged?

Read page 3 of the manual.
The red light is on when charging, it does not change colour but goes off when not charging. It will take up to 18 hours to charge for 9 hours of use on low.
12V Lead acid battery should be kept charged all the time, even when in storage.

Where can I find replacement parts for my rechargeable lantern?

It's great that you're looking to revive your rechargeable lantern! Here are some steps you can take to find replacement parts and ensure your lantern is in working condition:

  1. Check with the Manufacturer: Start by contacting the manufacturer of your rechargeable lantern. They may offer replacement parts for your specific model, including the light tubes. You can inquire about replacement batteries as well.
  2. Search Online Retailers: Look for online retailers specializing in selling replacement parts for lanterns and flashlights. Websites like Amazon, eBay, or specialized outdoor equipment stores may carry the replacement light tubes you need. Make sure to check if they ship to Canada.
  3. Visit Local Hardware or Outdoor Stores: Explore hardware stores, camping supply stores, or outdoor equipment retailers in your area. They may have replacement light tubes or similar products that are compatible with your lantern.
  4. Consider Universal Light Tubes: If you cannot find the exact replacement light tubes for your lantern, consider purchasing universal light tubes that fit the size and specifications of your lantern's sockets. Be sure to measure the dimensions of the sockets and compare them with the specifications of the replacement tubes.
  5. Test the Battery: Before purchasing replacement parts, it's a good idea to test the battery to see if it still holds a charge. If you have a compatible charger, you can try charging the battery and observing its performance. If the battery no longer holds a charge or shows signs of leakage, you'll need to replace it.
  6. Inspect for Damage: Since the lantern has been in storage for several years, carefully inspect it for any signs of damage or wear, especially around the battery compartment and electrical components. If you notice any corrosion or damage, it's best to address those issues before using the lantern.
By following these steps, you should be able to find replacement parts for your rechargeable lantern and get it back into working condition. If you encounter any difficulties, don't hesitate to contact customer support or seek assistance from a local retailer.

Swissgear rechargable lantern won't light up, even though the green led light indicates it is fully charged

There are several different models of the Swiss Gear rechargeable lantern. On most though, you can remove the top portion of the lantern and check the lighting element inside. In most cases the elements can be removed and replaced. I have a dual filament lantern and from experience I know that every so often you may have to go buy a replacement light piece. If the lantern has been bumped or even just strapped to the outside of the pack while walking, it's possible for those elements to become loose and need repositioning or replacement so do check that. I'm sure that it should be unlikely your charger is malfunctioning unless you left it plugged in for some very extended period of time, in which case I would say the light would be more likely to burn out. But definitely try that and if that doesn't work the battery pack on the lantern itself may have an issue in which case you can always get a replacement.
