Clogged filter, low on refrigerant. I have seen on home a/c units if you turn the thermostat too low and it runs for hours, it can freeze up

Don't block off any ceiling ducts and see what happens. If you've closed off any forced air ducts, the unit will freeze up, if too many are closed off. Also, if you shut unit off (compressor) give it 5 or 10 minutes before you turn it back on.

2007 Forest River Wildwood trailer. I need an owners manual for my Wildwood trailer I think the number on the manual could be FD-323.

Question edited for clarity, full maker name.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks to one of the Forest River.

What they list as 'manuals' are more brochures. You FD-323 didn't produce much. 2007 range below.

It cools great when first turned on. After so many hours of cooling it stops cooling

Have you checked up in filter area at ceiling to see if fins are frozen or frosted bad? If they are dirty, they can cause frost/ice and AC goes in to fan only until frost/ice is gone. When did unit actually get a good cleaning last? Too many registers closed or blocked can cause freeze up as well. Does this unit have ducted or non-ducted system?

Are trailer is only a couple of years old and we have only used it a few times - twice when we have used it we left the air conditioning running and left the trailer for a few hours and come back and it is...

Hello,

Here is what happening . This has nothing to do with you having it on while you stepped out for a few hours. The unit needs to be cleaned/ filters/screens/fins/coils. This problem would of happened even if you were in the trailer as it was running. The issue is after a while, sense it needs to be cleaned it loads up and then starts to freeze and then once it starts to freeze coils etc... it then starts only blowing warm air. When you turned it off, and let it set for a while, reason it started working again, is because the ice that built up defrosted some to have unit operate proper again. Solution is to clean the unit good. Thanks Mike from fixya.

Dometic ducted a/c will come on and cool---but when it cycles off it will not come back on for hours. have replaced thermostat, circuit board and capicitor. still have same problem---can anyone help??????

Hate to have to ask you so many questions but something isn't adding up here. Original post said it cycles off and will not come on for hours, yet, last comment said if fan on high, compressor kicks in and out every few minutes, so I think I'm getting a little mixed up, sorry. So i need to ask a few more questions. How old is the unit roughly? Has it been working good up until this happened? Have you tried dropping the ceiling assembly down by removing the 4 bolts holding it to roof unit, and looking on the forced air side of the ceiling assembly to make sure there is no obstructions to duct work such as rubber roof material hanging down etc, that would block any flow to ducts. Do you have all, or most of your ducts open to allow cool air to distribute itself properly? If you have done all this work yourself, have you tried by-passing the thermostat and connecting wires at control box, to see if unit stays running that way? If you didn't do the work, don't guess, please.

I have a 2011 Wildwood travel trailer. I tried to use the air conditioner for the first time this weekend. When I turned the themostat to cool and 65 degrees the air unit "clicked" one time but...

First thing to check is that the breaker for hydro to AC unit is in the on position. The clicking sounds like 12 VDC is OK but hydro may not be on to it.

TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT DUCTED AIRCONDITIONER COLMAN. FOR 1995 TRAILER

The upper unit doesn't matter ( the actual ac unit on roof ) it's the lower control unit (inside at ceiling) that you need to change to use either ducted or non-ducted system. Any RV dealer can supply that, probably have it on the shelf. Just make sure you write down the model number and serial number, off the bottom of the upper unit, so they can match lower unit to it, for ducted system.

The RV rooftop mounted A/C unit short cycles and trips the circuit breaker. Local A/C Tech. have been unable to correct. Do you have a solution? The Unit is on a 2002 Wildwood Trailer. Thank You....

When you say it is short cycling, if it is just the compressor turning on and of, the internal overloads in the compressor could be opening and closing because they are overheating (the compressor will be extremely hot to the touch). This could be due to something as easy as the condenser coil being dirty (good chance if not cleaned since 2002) or there is an internal malfunction (mechanical break) in the compressor, causing a need for a new compressor. If the compressor did fail, make sure you find out why, there is always a reason, something else wrong in the system causing the failure. If this is not the problem let me know.

remove the lower assembly and tighten the bolts that hold ac down to coach or pull shroud and check to make sure unit is not frezing up due to dirt
