My niece has somehow set a password on her msi u100 series laptop. We've tried resetting bios superviser password but problem still persists. Any advice?

That's because the password entered must be what the owner set it to be. BIOS passwords are used to prevent a thief from accessing and changing the BIOS settings.

The BIOs Cracker, a free or paid program can be found on line. That will allow changes to be made, however, any interruption can render the Bios useless and you may not access the Boot instruction set henceforth.

In case of your MSI laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

If your Laptop has no warranty than you open your laptop back-cover,open your laptop bios battery,turn it on & turn off it again.connect your bios battery again, turn it on and see your bios password has been deleted.

Those are not easy to get to but u will need to dislog the bios battery and re-insert it to remove the password lock.

A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:

In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.

Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.

Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

Turn the laptop upside down and remove the plates one by one. Wherever you see a button cell, remove it for a minute or so and then reinsert it and put back all the covers. Power on and boot up the laptop. And remember not to use the password again. And if you have to then use such that you can not forget ever.
