connect to your computer and then open "my computer" right click on the player, select properties and then tools. select format and set to fat16, you can also scan for errors from this tab by checking the box.
you may need to reformat it according to the computer you are using. If you, just select the drive in my computer(where your hard drive/cdrom/all that **** is) hit format, at the top there will be a drop down menu, click fat16 from there, then select quick format...should fix everything
Plug the mp3 player into the computer
Double-click My Computer
Right-click icon of the mp3 player
Select Format
It will give you a choice usually between FAT and FAT32 - FAT is the same as FAT16 in Windows-speak, so select "FAT"
If you have plugged your mp3 player into a Mac, you are out-of-luck.
Wow! FAT16! I wonder why it would want you to do that?
Here's how you do it on a Windows-based OS:
Connect mp3 player to computer
Double-click My Computer
Right-click the icon of the mp3 player
Select Format
When it gives you a choice between FAT and FAT32, choose FAT
There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer
itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up
erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as
new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override
the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be
reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware
upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites. WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.
Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or
FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right
click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to
Windows-based computers. You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself: Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media
Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath
the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking
on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of
Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select
"Format." - this should erase everything. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
Depending on the requirements of the mp3 player, you may just have to right-click format in Explorer, or a computer guru friend to format it for you with a partitioning program if it needs a partition table.
