It worked the night before, next day it wouldn't power on. checked outlet, chord, there was no power surges plus it was plugged into a good surge protector. What happened?
Go ahead and turn off the computer and disconect all the peripheral devices along with the disk in the cd dvd drive. Do a power drain and then restart the computer after 1 to 2 minutes. Hope it will work.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.
This could be one of several reasons. The most common reasons that a laptop won't power up are a dead battery, or a non-functioning charging chord. My first step would be to plug the laptop into an outlet in the wall that I know for a fact works. If I am unfamiliar with that specific plug, I will plug something into that outlet that makes noise or light. Such as a lamp, stereo, or phone charger. After you have verified that the wall is giving electricity to the charging chord, the next step is to check the next step in the power chain. That would be where the chord from the wall plugs into the transformer box, that plugs into the laptop itself. So the first step is to check that the outlet that charges the laptop is receiving power. As a side not just because a top plug is getting power does not mean that a bottom plug is as well in my experience. After power received, next check connections. Those connections will include the transformer connection, and the laptop connection. Also you may wish to check for cut, loose, frayed, taped, kinked, or otherwise dangerous looking chords. I also do not recommend using third party Universal laptop chargers bought from the store. I only would use one of these in an emergency situation. I don't trust the power regulation. And on top of that a laptop charger chord is so much cheaper on-line if you buy from somewhere like e-bay. That charger will be laptop model specific. Generally a new charger is about $15-35 on e-bay, and a new battery could be as cheap as $50. Although I would also recommend finding out if your laptop is under warranty. If it is within a year old this is a good possibility. That route takes a lot of patience, but it is usually free.
Make sure that all the plugs are plugged in. Try a different outlet, if it's plugged into a surge protector make sure that it didn't trip. Or if is plugged into a regular power strip press the reset button on the side of the strip. If that doesn't work there usually is a fuse inside the PC that might have blown.
Please make sure that the printer is connected to a wall outlet and not to a surge protector because surge protector distributes the total electric supply equally to each and every device connected to that surge protector. Printer might work and might not with a surge protector but it will always work fine with a wall outlet till the hardware of the printer and power chord, adapter are working fine.
some times scanner failure error comes if it is not getting enough power supply. So if it is connected to a surge protector then I will suggest you to disconnect it and connect it directly to a wall outlet. Now scan or copy any document and see if something happens.
If not the do check while you press scan or copy button the scanner light is moving or not? If scanner light is not moving then do a hard re-set.
Hard Re-Set : - disconnect power chord from the back of the printer and then from wall outlet or surge protector. - wait for 40 secondsand then connect the power adapter to wall outlet and then to the back of the printer. The try to scan or copy....still not working then check if the scanner bulb is glowing or not?
If scanner bulb is not glowing and if you dont hear any noise while you press scan or copy...then printer hardware has gone bad and you need to replace the printer
Hi,
Please check if it is connected to a wall outlet or to a surge
protector...If it is connected to a surge protector then connect it to a
wall outlet..... - If it is working then fine....If not then remove
all the cartridges...disconnect the power chord from back of the printer
and then from wall outlet......wait for 40 seconds then connect the
power chord to wall outlet first and then to the back of the printer.... -
If working fine then ok or else check adapter is warming or
not......and check with different wall outlet and with different power
supply.... - Now do the following re-sets : A) Disconnect the power chord from the back of the printer B) Press and hold # and 6 C)
While holding these keys connect the power chord to the back of the
printer and when you see that printer is warming up then release the
keys..... Or else replace the printer.
And also some
of the electrical components used to build the logic board in the Cxxxx
all in one printers about 2-3 years ago is failing. In my C6180 (with
the same problem), there were 4 capacitors (see green cylinder shaped
component in the attached - the bulge in the top indicates failure, and
that this is the likely the cause) that I replaced (cost was about 60
cents!). If you are not comfortable doing some soldering yourself, you
will have to find some help - it took me about 25 min to do the repair
myself. Printer works great now.
Try the printer in a different outlet (other side of room, or similar, not same power Jack)
If you have power here, your issue is likely the outlet, not the printer.
If the power cord has an "on" LED, check to see if it is lit up while plugged in.
If you have an LED with no light while it is plugged in, you are looking at a power adapter that is no longer working
If there is no "on" LED to check, your next best bet is to take your printer and power cord to a store that sells printers, and ask if you can "try" a new chord before buying it. (most stores will allow this to keep customers happy)
You may also want to check with the manufacturer if the chord is found to be bad, as some will send replacements free of charge.
The last option is that there is an issue inside the printer. This is not likely, though it is possible. Most printers have an external power adapter that keeps any power issue outside of the printer, but I can't tell from the epson site if this printer has one or not. (It would be a black box between the plug and printer.)
This can also be checked by "testing" a new chord at a store. New chord, still no power, internal issue.
If this is the case you will want to contact Epson if the unit is still under warranty.
Sounds like the UPS battery is bad, or the circuit break on it has gone. Is there a reset button on the UPS? Do you have the program that came with the UPS to check the battery status, those programs typically let you run a test on it also.
You first need to rplace the outlet if it sparks where the surge protector is plugged in as it should not spark for any reason. then you need to make sure thast its not the outlet causing your problem by running an long extensition corn or moving the set to a differant outlet.
