JBL sub PSW-D110 hums, and the fuse is blown

Hi,     I have a JBL subwoofer modeled PSW-D110 and the fuse is blown.  if I replace the fuse, it hums.  There are several components seem blown.  One of the cap is blown, can't read the value of the cap(C24).  Does anyone know the value of the cap.  Does anyone have the schematic for this sub?  please send it to me if you have it.  I read it on the forum that it could be the s53ami causing this problem.  Can some confirm this, because I don't want to spend the money to buy the part if this is not the problem.  Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.  please also send me the schematic for the s531mi component if you have it. My JBL PSW-D110 started humming loud... The fuse is fine and the power LED displays is illuminated in green. However the sound is unbearable... It would like to replace the entire IC panel if its most cost effective. I contacted JBL online and they have no authorized service center in my area.  Based on the description below does anyone have any idea where to start as I don't have the schematic? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. MARK

    Here is the service manual.

  • Jaime Hernandez Mar 25, 2008

I would suggest that before you start changing any other part, change or check C1 and C2 for dry or leaky conditions.

    Good Luck.

What is the size of the JBL PSW-D110 fuse?

The fuse is a 250volt 1.25 amp slow blo.
First thing I would do is check C6 to see if it is bulge or blown - regardless replace it with a 10ufd 100volt Non-polarity capacitor. If the fuse blows again unplug the blue wires from the transformer and plug in unit to an outlet. If fuse does not blow then problem is on PC board. I have a service manual for this item. Probable causes on PC board are Filter Caps, Bridge rectifier (DBA), Amplifier module, or fragments of C6 even causing shorts on board if it had blown.

I have bought C6 from MCM Electronics for under .50 cents but you have to put shrink tube on one lead and bend it back along the body and solder both leads in the board.

Good luck

The required fuse is 1.6 A / 125V an is blown, I wen to radio shack and bought a 1.6A/250V and it has blown 2 already, what can I do or check to fix it? This is a Sony Sub-woofer model sa-wmsp1.

Hi,
If power transformer T1 got shorted or its output voltage got shorted for some reason, fuse will blow in Sony SA-WMSP1 active subwoofer.
Check power transformer, D401 bridge rectifiers and IC301 power amplifier out chip. Any of them is bad.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

JBL PSW D100 blown fuse

Not likely. There are no fuses according to the instructions I found for the D-110. I assume they're about the same.

Try it with nothing attached anywhere except the power cord. No light immediately = dead.

No output from d110

Hi Chadwik

The fact that you do get hum when you partially remove one of the RCA's would tend to say that the output stages are working ok. Is the hum "solid" and bassy, or distorted?

There are a few issues that these subs have had, mostly to do with capacitors in the power supply failing. If you are up to it, I can talk you through repairs to it.

Hi calsunbelt

there are some caps that fail in the power supply. If you are up to doing some electronic repairs, I could talk you through it and tell you what parts to check.

JBL PSW-D110 Humming Loud

If I remember these correctly, there is a bad coupling cap in the amp section. You should see it as the top should have ballooned up. Replace the cap and you should be OK.
