Its normal your computer is automatically shutdown because the system hardware cannot bear the heat anymore that was produce in computer hardware. hardware is degrade when time goes by. so the basic solutions is to provide your laptop a cooling pad.

When systems power off suddenly, always suspect - the power first. I would then look at heat and physical connections next as culprits. Memory errors almost always show up as blue screens.
I say try a new power supply and see what it does. Its not a lot of money either way.

Run CPUID Hardware Monitor and watch your temps. You will have to turn logging on or you will lose the data in a crash.
Make sure your CPU heatsink is still connected properly. Things have a way of working loose.

Welcome to FixYa!

It seems that you're having a serious display problem. One way to confirm this issue is for you to go to the BIOS screen of your Y410 and see if the problem would materialize.

Here's how
  • Shutdown your computer and disconnect any USB storage devices attached.
  • Turn it on and tap on the "F2" key repeatedly until you see a different screen
Once in BIOS, see if the discoloration/blinking issue is present. If it is, then I strongly suggest that you take this laptop to the nearest Lenovo repair center. If it's still in warranty, then the repair can be covered, otherwise, I'm seeing close to $300 for LCD replacement.

Hope this helps and Thank you for using FixYa.

Laptop heats and shutdown

May be there is dust in your laptop. Use the laptop with some wooden flat surface instead of pillow, the laptop should heat less frequently

Sound goes on & off on lenovo Y410 laptop

Next time it goes off, have a look to see if you have a service/process called Windows Audio running. Click Start & type "services.msc" in the search box (presuming you are using vista), then just press enter.
Look for "Windows Audio" & "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder".
Make sure they are running/started & set to automatic.

The problem could be a driver that did not install properly, a codec that did not install properly or a Windows update that did not install properly.
