Samsung HCN529W projection TV, about 6 years old. Not had any problems with it until last night. Colors on screen did something wierd and the screen went blank. Sound and DIRECTV still work and I can see the picture on my home computer thru S-Video but the TV screen won't come back on. Also, heard a wierd noise wen the TV screen went blank. Do the projection bulbs in the TV do this when they burn out ? Would replacing the bulb fix the screen ? thanks

Your
convergence has failed and need to be repaired. Once quick test is to
goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If
not its has failed and needs to be fixed.
You can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com
you are reaaly looking for a nightmare messing with the convergence rings to adjust the convergence you need to change the two ics and probly some reistors
this does require soldering the ic's you have to change there are two of them plus sometimes you have a bad resistor or two and some bad pico fuses if you can solder and have a meter you could do it
There is a problem on the deflection board (BP94-00501B). I have tried replacing the flyback, both convergence IC's and the horizontal output transistor without any luck. I finally bought the whole board from encompass parts for ~$120. Hope this helps.
While looking at your TV, remove the bottom right speaker grill. There you will find a cover held by a couple of screws. Remove the screws and behind the cover you will find the "focus pack" which is a group of 6 adjustment screws. The top screws adjust (in order from left to right) the brightness of Red, Green and Blue.
What you will do preferably at night (or with the room dark) turn the top left adjustment screw (Red) all the way to the left and then gradually turn it to the right until the point you can see the retrace line and then turn it slightly to the left until the retrace line disappears. That's it! You can do this for all three colors - if need be. These do go out of adjustment every now and then. The 3 screws on the bottom are to focus the colors individually to minimize "bloom" on the screen. It's best to be in service mode on your TV when doing this OR open up the cabinet and cover (with something) the other 2 colors while you adjust the focus of the color you're adjusting.
