The kitchen aid superba, door will not stay closed it will pop open when the dishwasher starts sometimes later in the cycle lately, immediately, I am tired of paying a tech guy to address the problem and it will hapen again in 9 months.
I have the same problem and it appears that everyone else who has replaced the door seal runs in top this issue. This is a new seal design that is different from the original. This new seal is obviously poorly designed is placing too much pressure on the door causing it to either not close, or open mid cycle. I am presently duck taping the door closed when running the machine in the hope that the heat cycling the new seal will eventually cause it to deform and relieve the pressure. I see that other have attempted to help the process by increasing the release pressure on the latch. This will be the last Kitchenaid large appliance I purchase.
I experienced the same issue with the door popping open while running through the cycles. I tried a lot of the fixes listed here and elsewhere. None worked until now, but I have found a fix. I have run mine twice and it went from opening every few minutes to not popping open at all.
The fix is to adjust the feet at the bottom front of the dishwasher. Adjust them two ways: 1) make sure the door is level vertically or even leans back a little. The door is very heavy and if it leans forward at all while closed, it will fall open easily. 2) Adjust the feet so the dishwasher is level from side to side. If it is not level, it will cause the door to sit crooked in the opening and therefor the door will not shut a solidly and the latch will not catch optimally.
By properly adjusting the feet, my dishwasher went from being near unusable to not popping open at all during the wash cycle.
Check the hinge area. May be some hard washed materials could have got stuck in-between. use a light / torch and observe.
Mine does the same thing. It started when Sears replaced the gasket because of a leak. They have been here at least 6 times for the same problem - door popping open. They keep replacing things and as soon as they leave the door pops open again. I got tired of calling them and started just closing it at least sometimes 4 times during the wash cycle. I have a Master agreement with Sears and found out that I have to call 4 times within 60 days before they will replace it. So now I am calling every time it happens. The dishwasher cost about $1000 and we will see what they try to replace it with when the 60 days are up and it is still not fixed. This should be fun (NOT).

Since the door gasket replacement is not solving the problem, I suspect that the steam is causing this problem. Pl ask the service provider to check the thermostat and the safety device if any.
The excessive steam may develop pressure and could lead to this problem. If the door stays in closed position without the machine switched on, the cause could be door switch/latch.
Chances are the door latch may open up due to intermittent function of the switch relay or the relay control electronics.
Check the door locking arrangement as said above.

I got this dishwasher for free, the original owner was throwing it away because of the door popping open issue. I have had trouble with it also, and also had it failing to complete a wash cycle because the water heater switch(located in the door and controled by the latch) wouldn't stay connected for the water to heat. I have always thought the door issue was caused by not being leveled/installed properly in the cabinet opening. I have also tried replace the little piece of metal that engages the latch. I was able to get it to stop opening for a few months but never a permanent fix, Maybe increasing the door assist spring tension would help.
