The stuttered dialtone that your getting to indicate that you have a message is provided from your telco provider. The message waiting light on the system is used by either the internal voicemail with the system or by the receptionist. The message waiting light will not work with telco provided voicemail.

Please may I speak to real person

your message service is provided by your mobile phone network provider. As you did not provide this information I suggest searching at www.google.com for the mobile phone providers web site and go to this and look for FAQ's or support or help .There will either be a phone number or a live chat help .

What normally happens is when a message is left the message service sends a MWI (message waiting indication) via SMS to tell you to access Message bank. The SMS usually under messages then gives you the phone number to call to access your recorded messages. eg TELSTRA uses 101 optus uses 123 vodaphone uses 121 they are all different depending on provider .

Message light blinking, but there is no message on phone.

Pressing the Voice Mail button only checks messages on the FIRST LINE. The Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) lights of all lines. Check the icon next to your other line buttons. One should be an envelope. Press that Line Button, THEN press the Voice Mail button.

The light does not blink, nor does the display show message waiting when there is voice mail on the phone

This model of phone does not have voicemail so you must be getting the service from another provider. The Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) is triggered by a message from the voicemail provider. If you are using a provider other then the company that provides the dialtone on your phone it is unlikely that company will be able to provide the MWI message. If you do have Voicemail with the provider of your dialtone then call and make sure they have it set up for activating you message waiting indicator there is the visual option that uses the lights on your phone and the LCD display and there is the audible option that provides a stutter dialtone when you go offhook. Some companies do both by default you will want to make sure they are providing the visual MWI alert. There are some compatiblity issues to consider but this particular phone is known to work very well with most carriers. Good Luck, I hope this helps.

Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) light stays on since VoIP

There maybe different MWI options available in the phone's set up menu on the base unit. If so, see if the different options perform differently. Your phones are probably set to "FSK" (frequency shift keying) for MWI but IIRC, U-Verse uses the "Stutter" option. Also, in addition to talking to the installer, call ATT tech support. If the problem is in the signalling they may now have programming options on their end to resolve it.

My red light wont go out on cisco 7940 phone, even when i have no messages

Hi,

Has this just stopped working, or has it never been working?

On the call manager / CME the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) needs to be configured. This could be undertaken either via the GUI or from the CLI

For instance ...

ephone-dn 30
number 8000...
mwi on
!
!
ephone-dn 31
number 8001...
mwi off

and also mapped to each phone to enable MWI status

ephone-dn 1 dual-line
number 111
label Chris
name fred
call-forward busy 800
call-forward noan 800 timeout 10
huntstop channel
mwi-type visual

Complete config details are at:http://www.ciscosystems.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/command/reference/cme_m1ht.html#wp1018439

Message Indicator light displayed when there is no message

Don't know if you configured your CM server or not but there are two numbers that control the MWI. One number activates the lamp and the other turns it off. This is configured when you configure the system so I can't tell you what your numbers are. If you're using CM and not CME it's under the voice mail tab. Simply dial the number that turns the lamp off from the phones in question.

Oh and next time if you have an issue try restarting the CM service first instead of rebooting the box.

MWI doesn't work on Polycom SE-225

The issue isn't exactly resolved. This appears to be due to an incompatibility of the Polycom Se-225 on our Meridian 1 phone system. But Converse handsets with MWI work fine. I have a partial solution by disabling the lamp (LPD on class-of-service), while leaving MWA setting. This allows the interrupted dial-tone when the user lifts the handset.

Model 4025

In the days before voicemail, Mitel had a "Call Me Back" feature that would light the MWI. We now use the MWI for voicemail, but the capability is still there. You can solve it several ways.

1. Go to the blinking phone and press the Messages button. One of those should be "Call me back". Press it and when the other party picks up, the MWI should turn off.

-or-

2. Look up the FAC for Message Waiting - Deactivate in your phone switch. On my switch it is *91.
